Increasing Wheel Size

Hi,i presently have 13inch alloys on our van,i after buying a pair of 14 inch alloys to update the look of the van,the width of the tyres at the moment are 175 the new tyres will be 185,will this affect the van as its only 1cm wider or will the height tyre make much diffrence to? thanks

The overall diameter depends on the aspect ratio of the tyres and you don't make any mention of that. Whether the caravan can accommodate larger wheels and tyres depends on the wheelarch clearance when the suspension is at full bounce. It is almost impossible to check this clearance easily, so it would best to contact the manufacturer and ask what opportunity there is for other wheel/tyre combinations.

I would also check with your insurers that they would allow such a change as you are changing the van from the maufacturer's specification. If you can get approval from the manufacturer then that would help your case.

I agree with scotchlad changing the wheels from manufatuers standard is classed as a modification. this my partners daughter found out recently when she had an accident in her car, her wheels had been changed before she bought it.
