without going into too much detail, my wife and I are selling our house and want to live in a touring caravan for six months in a friends large garden. It is a very secure place and yet I am finding it difficult to get insurance. Insurers for static caravans don't seem interested because its a tourer and insurers for tourers are reluctant because we are not touring. Any ideas?

Hi Steve

When you insure with Saga you have to state your normal storage site.

If you leave your van unattended for mor than 24 hours at a site other than your stated storage site, your van will not be insured even if you have all the security devices fitted.

However if you change your storage site to the new place (say your friends property, and you comply with all the security requirements then it is ok.

We sometimes, in the early or late season visit a site in Cornwall where we are allowed to leave our van for the week with the awning up and go down at weekends.

This is left entirely at our own risk, so Saga explained to me last year.

If I use the van through out the week and commute to work daily then this is ok, but I would then have to pay the full rate at the site.

Regards

Leso
