Hi

Can any one please tell me about insurance as I am picking up my first caravan next week, my van is costing me £14,000 and I have had quotes as follows:-

caravan Club £404.00

Insurace 4 caravans £343.00

E&L £279.00

Why are these so different all I can see is the security restriction eg.when parked at service stations unattended one wants wheel lock, One only wants hitch lock, one requires secure storage and you can only bring your van home only 24hrs before you go on holiday. Can any one help with this mine field

many thanks

Phil

Philip, with caravan insurance you only get what you pay for.

Be very very aware of cheap quotes.

The only time you will find out just how good your insurance is, is when you claim, and from personal experience the Caravan Club and Camping and Caravanning Club offer the best, hassle free uncomplicated policies.

From the list you have given the first is very good

The second is unknown to me but I have not heard any bad reports so far.

The third,,no comment (cannot say any more for legal reasons)

I have worked within the insurance industry for some years (mainly home and motor insurance) and have chosen insurance with www.insuremycaravan.co.uk (which is provided by a broker by the name of Ceta). This company came up cheapest for us - however - this was not my only decision. I read the policy cover from start to finish - (how many people do you know that read their policy booklets) I found the same exclusion - you can only bring your caravan home 24hrs prior to you going away or when you have just come home. This works fine for us. I can also say I had a query regarding the insurance and the staff were excellent in sorting this out. I have never put a claim in through this company but haven't heard any bad reports. I have just renewed with them in the last month.

Phillip,

You only find out if your insurance is any good if you need to claim.

I use the CC, not the cheapest but a sensible deal and I have confidence they would come through if the worst came to the worst.

Don`t know that much about your second option, but haven`t heard anything negative.

The third option you will find no-one can talk about on here for legal reasons. An astute person would obviously question why that may be, and no doubt arrive at a decision on where to place there insurance of their caravan.

`Nuff said.

I worked in the insurance industry for 37 years and until recently had to do the six FSA exams to maintain my certificate to practice. So like you I always pay very close attention to all the small print, special policy conditions warranties etc.

We have always insured via the CC and never had any problem.

My renewal is tomorrow and on the basis of your experience I contacted "insuremycaravan". They came up with a quote from Towergate for

Hi Alan - I was limited when choosing the insurance company due to my place of storage which I thought was pretty regular (in a farm barn but not locked barn door). Towergate did not come back as the provider for my quote from insure my caravan but a company called IGI. I was assured by insure my caravan (namely Ceta Insurance) that they were reputible - did a little looking online read the policy and hopefully all will be ok. Have dealt with Ceta Insurance previously and found them good to deal with. Hopefully I will not need to claim, if I do I will certainly post the experience on here.
