Interesting New experience

Hi all

We are new to caravaning, been away four times in total, one of which was to France.

One of the aspects I have really enjoyed is meeting new people and chatting, either when filling up the aquaroll or the neighbours etc etc.

This weekend we were chatting to a couple who were very nice and they asked if we were memebers of a club, which are thinking of doing but havn't as yet. When we said so they replied "thought so, because you talk to people!!".

Is this common at club rallies etc?

Although Im not someone who meets people and wants to be friends for life, I do enjoy chatting about experiences and listening/giving recomendations and having a good time.

If I can't chat on site then I thought I could on here.

Anthony

Hi Anthony

Feel free to chat at any time! I also like to chat on site - you can learn much about the area, places to visit, caravanning etc., but there do sometimes seem to be some folk who won't even say 'good morning'. Generally a friendly smile and hello will be reciprocated so please, do chat!

Anthony(Cambs)

Glad to have you on the forum and welcome to the wild world of caravanning.

I can only say as a find, and generally speaking, caravanners are a sociable lot. Yeah, there are some quiet folk (and plenty of noisy ones too) but you'll never go short of conversation on a caravan site - club or otherwise.

We're quite new to this game too and also enjoy a friendly chat on site. When we were in Brighton a few weeks ago, we had several changes of near-neighbours over the course of our 2 week stay and our chats each evening whilst sat outside with a glass of wine made for a very pleasant stay (think we got the only 2 good weeks weather this summer!). As newbies, we got loads of hints and tips regarding all manner of caravanning issues from site recommendations to the best way to dry your laundry. One neighbour lent us a hammer to peg out the awning on the hardstanding, another hitched his car to our caravan to check our faulty right indicator, our next door neighbours on site fetched us a daily newspaper each day and we helped others push their vans into place as space was limited for reversing onto pitches. We found this a very welcome change to our previous experiences in static caravans when we would be lucky to get a nod hello from fellow holidaymakers.

Keep up the chatting, Anthony, we certainly will be!

PS Members of both clubs!

We find that on Caravan Club sites, people tend to be friendlier than on Camping and Caravanning Club sites. Which is strange because the latter likes to call itself "the friendly club". Recently we spent four weeks on two different CC sites where everyone responded when we said "good morning", then we moved to a C&CC site and people gave us strange looks, like we were hitting on them! We found it was the same in the wash-up areas and stopped trying after a few days.

Hi C & R,

We were also in Brighton a couple of weeks ago (Sheepcote Valley) but left a week early as we decided it wasn`t our ideal type of site, and the bit we were on was about the most unfriendly I`ve been to in twenty years of `vanning, with `neighbours` looking at you funny if you uttered such phrases as `good morning` or `good afternoon`.

Each to his own I expect, I`m not the greatest socialiser in the world, but there seemed to be more cameraderie at the far end of the site.
