For some weeks now my I.E.8 has been freezing up.
I've tried disabling add-ons plus downloading a Microsoft tool that scans for problems, which didn't show any, so decided to try the Beta I.E.9.
Once installed all was fine until I came to the PCv forum and it wont let you post. You can read the posts and open a box to reply to a post but there is no cursor in the reply box.
If by right clicking and selecting 'select all' a cursor appears and you can type although the font is small. The cursor doesn't work for highlighting text/deleting either. Neither can you type or edit a quote. The arrow keys did work.
Eventually I managed to start a new topic in Our Website and typed most of what I've posted here. I then clicked 'save' and a new reply box opened but my post wasn't saved .. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I have now done a system restore back to I.E.8 and all is fine again although I doubt if the browser freezing up is cured.
So beware if you are thinking of trying I.E.9.

<<< see, even the smilies work now although they didn't in I.E.9.

Hi i had the same problem when I updated to IE9 apparently the ipods have the same problem you have to disable rich text BUT if using IE9 use the "Compatability mode" it then works fine for the website, there are quite a few sites where you have to use this mode..
The compatability mode button is at the top of the taskbar adjacent to the web address it looks like a sheet of paper torn in half next to the refresh button.

Thanks for that Derek. I'll remember that for the future.
What I did do if I recall correctly was disable rich text where there was an option at the bottom of the reply dialogue box. Again from memory after doing that I don't think I tried to type a message. Anyway, now back with 8 and at least one glitch regarding my BT page is now working which wasn't before ... heh! heh! heh!

Beware beta software full stop. I mean look at the trouble we had with this new site for the first couple of weeks...

I have in the past JD but this was a case of desperation. I'm fed up of IE8 freezing up and having to restart what I'm in the middle of doing. And it's still freezing up

I've been using IE9 since it's very first public release. It is far more stable and quicker than IE8 even in Beta form, and it's never been a problem but you must let microsoft udates install as you close down as it is being updated all the time I've been told. Have you made the correct selections when you downloaded it?
I also used Google Chrome but wasn't happy with the way they collect information and try and take over your computing so I coverted to Opera. It's good as it goes back to the page you were last at when you closed it down. It remebers every page for each tab you're using, if you switch off your pc now, when you turn it on again and hit Opera will open with this page.
