Just had a new devise for going online while in the caravan. Went to Car phone warehouse and asked for Internet everywhere . They then sorted me out with the devise, the cost is about £15. per month on direct debit but to me well worth the money to be able to log on in the caravan. We are away in our caravan for most of the season so I,m hoping to get plenty of use out of it. There,s another internet company providing the same product which is at the moment being advertised on tv. Worth alook.

Sorry people, but why are you paying for what you can get for free?

A direct call to your phone provider or via internet deal should kick Carphone warehouse or any high street dealers deal in to touch!

We get free unlimited internet access from our mobile provider.

I think you may have missed my point Allyson.

We get unlimited internet access through the mobile phone for no cost.

That gives us unlimited free net surfing and free email at no extra cost anywhere in Britain when we can't connect to free wi-fi but have a mobile signal!

The phone will connect laptop as well if needed.

Mobile phone providers dongle is only as good as the signal, if you can get a 3G signal you get good download speed, on many caravan sites you will only get the GPRS signal.

I assume that most caravanners travel with a mobile phone, mobile phone providers will offer better deals than Carphone Wharehouse and others and give free internet access!

Not sure what your point is.

3G Phones with HSDPA come free! And if you are using a mobile providers dongle you are using 3G/HSDPA in limited lcations or GPRS and ADSL has nothing to do with that surely, or have I missed something.

Why pay for a dongle contract when you can get the service for free with mobile phone is my point.

Some people would have to upgrade their phones to 3G.

If your home isn't in a HSDPA area, a 3G phone/dongle connection will be very slow compared to an ADSL landline.

If you've already got a 3G mobile and live in an HDSPA area, you're right Jason.

I have a Vodafone mobile internet which gives me speeds of 7.2mbps. This is the fastest mobile on market apparently. It is a good system but is still much slower than internet at home even when connected to 3G.

I'm very new to HSPDA but learning fast, first don't believe because the modem says 'connected at x kbps' you are getting that speed? most are limited to 2.8 at best and Voda brag they have 7.2 but in truth, only in inner London and a few other very limited spots.

However it would appear it is the very near future, infact 40kbps is just around the corner!!, read this!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSPDA

Still recovering from jet lag so may be I'm going a little potty.

Was this thread not about Internet on the move?

Internet on the move removes ADSL from the equation unless you track wi-fi hotspots!

Business contacts who use Vodafones latest mobile dongle find they are on GPRS in many areas so I agree with gary.

"3" is yet another story.

All I can say is that if you use a mobile phone, talk directly to your provider. You should get a whole bundle of call options and free internet without the need for an additional dongle contract and a free internet phone to. If you travel abroad you should also be able to get reduced rate calls and free text messaging.

If you don't ask you don't get!Carphone Warehouse sales people recoil in horror if I tell them my deal, they can not compete.
