Inverters and chargers

Hi,

We have an electric scooter and we're trying to charge it from the mains adapter on the move with an inverter.

It's a newish power supply that uses electronics instead of the old twin coils setup.

I don't think the charger is working though. Is this because of the square wave from the inverter or a duff power supply?

So you have an inverter (12V to 240V) connected to a 12V supply somewhere (where?), and run the scooter battery charger from the 240V output.

Modern inverter and charger will loose a bit of efficiency in the conversions, but it shouldn't stop it working.

Questions:

Are you sure the 12V point is powered up when towing?

Are you sure the individual units work OK out of the van?

Are you sure the inverter can provide enough power to drive the charger?

I couldn't get enough power through my inverter to charge up my laptop so I added a direct fused feed from the battery to a "cigarette lighter" socket and it works ok now.

when u are on the move a relay should switch off internal power except for the fridge, so if you are plugged into a 12v socket it wont be on.

U could fix one up direct from the battery, through an inline fuse of course.
