I need some advice about purchasing an inverter to occasionally power a colour TV from a 110ah battery. Use would be for say 4hrs continuously max.

On a site without hook-up I use a 45amp solar panel to keep the battery charged and this has worked well over a week.

Although my Grundig TV is dual voltage I wonder which source, the inverter or direct 12v would drain the battery more.

Any specific inverter and wattage info will be welcome.

Thanks

Hello Tonye, My gut reaction is to stick with the 12v input on the telvision, my reasoning is that assuming Grundig who are a well respected manuafcturer will have done thier sums and matched any high voltage inverters insider the set to the sets power requirments, and thus will waste less during any conversion of 12v dc to any higher value. The bonus of using an external inverter is that you may run other equiepment (Video or computer) so take your choice.

You can very rarely get something for nothing!

Ther will be losses across an inverter so the direct to 12 volt DC would be the most economical battery consumption wise.

Inverters come "into their own" when needing to use 230VAC devices from 12 VDC.

Hi,

Roger's right, you get a power loss from the inverter (even when nothing is plugged in). You will also get a power loss from the TV as it converts the 240v back to 12v dc.
