hello, ive taken the plunge and booked troutbeck for xmas. weve never been away before at xmas, and were going to go to bunree. but as bunree is twice as far if not more than troutbeck, we choose the later. any advice on troutbeck at xmas, its the cc one. we have 2 dogs,so info on walks would be appreciated,so im looking for a smaller xmas tree to take with us, as the 7ft one will have to stay at home....

We've spent a few happy Christmases away in the van - 2 or 3 times at Sandringham (there's a wonderful Christmas fair on near the Visitor Centre, and you get to see the Royal Family on Christmas day when they go to church!). Last Christmas we were at Old Oaks, the owners laid on a lovely buffet with plenty of wine and nibbles on Christmas Eve, we had a brilliant time. And decorating the van and awning is a big part of the fun!

thanks everyone,

im excited already, i love xmas, and did wonder if i could actually not see family on xmas day...but this year up till now has been awfull, so i thought ,,lifes too short, get on with it, im quite sure they will all come round when we get back. obviously the first priority was to let santa know the address where we will be, as we dont want the bugatti veyron being delivered when we arent here, its a nightmare getting a parcel re-delivered. thanks again..

You will need to wrap up warm, (you & the caravan)

We stayed up ther last november & water was frozen everyday, it also snowed/rained everyday & the weather can change so quickly.

There is a forest walk at the top of the site, but going anywhere else you will need the car (its out in the middle of nowhere).

Have fun.

How dare you mention the 'C' word (or 'x' word) on here in August.

I threaten er indoors with divorce if it is mentioned before December. Never works of course, no doubt the x word cards will be in the shops soon.

We are off to Hillhead CC site Devon for New Year. We booked it and the evening entertainment while we were on site earlier in the month. Can't wait.

Our Pegasus is fully winterised so we should be OK. Just a thought, the water in onboard, but waste is still external, do people have any issues with that freezing, or is the washing up liquid & soap etc in the water enough to stop it freezing?

Certainly not to early, have booked N Y 2/jan /10 for this N Y. Pipes can freeze, ours did in -10 degrees at Siloth in Cumbria some years ago. Now our water container wears a coat ( my old one adapted.

The waste water can certainly freeze Zafiral, as we found when we were out last New Year. The answer is to empty it before retiring, that way you won't wake up to frozen water, which you can't get rid of. :O)
