Is nightwear acceptable dress when walking to shower blocks?

I know this is probably going to be another topic of contention but having received this months C&CC mag I read that there has been a lot of replies to this debate and it got me thinking about it.

Basically do you think it is acceptable or not to wear your nightclothes in pubic when walking to the shower block as it is done in Europe & more & more in this country?

Some comments already are & I quote:"Women shouldn't be seen stepping out in their night attire and dressing gowns"& "As a 72 yr old male, I am still frisky enough not to find fault with any of this so feel free!!

I must admit I don't walk about in my nightwear as it's a bit too skimpy for public viewing & not practical with two toddlers in tow so I get dressed!

What do you do????

NO, it's not acceptable in my opinion, however, nor is it acceptable to *** over to the shower blocks at 5am and see what I saw - a rather large man of Irish origin leaving the abolutions wearing trousers but no top. Not a pretty sight (on a site near Appleby Horse Fair).

Isn't it strange that someone in nightware, or just wearing boxers (males that is)to the showers is frowned upon , BUT,wearing skimpy swimwear is deemed perfectly acceptable, whether it is on a beach, by a pool, or just laying on the grass in warm weather.

As for large men, of Irish origin or not, (whether that has any bearing or not is disputable) there are many very large women too, and if the eating habits of a lot of the population do not improve, there are going to be many more "super size" of both sexes walking, or trying to walk around the whole country.

As we both shower in the morning, I usually walk to the toilet block wearing my t-shirt and shorts that I wear in bed and my wife will put a raincoat on over her t-shirt.

We do take a set of clean clothes to change into after the shower.

NIGHTWEAR ?

We don't even own any.

Can't see why would you want that extra weight in the caravan.

Her Ladyship and I have never worn pyjamas, whether in the caravan or at home, we don't own any. We are naked as the day we were born and the thought of wearing them and being restricted is just too uncomfortable.

Regarding the post heading, I would rather that some don't go to the showers wearing night attire, it can be a bit off putting when trying to eat my breakfast. One particular lady was a dab hand at timing her walk? to the shower, always when I was eating and I don't wish to be unkind but she simply shouldn't have been wearing shorts. I'm not joking, you could have stuck a pole up the middle and camped out in them. I did say to Her Ladyship though that I admired her courage and couldn't careless attitude.

Hate to say it but yes, I go to the showers in my jamas, and then come back with the towell rapped around me.

What's the point of getting dressed then undressed then dressed again.

I can't stand making extra work for me, I do the same in France but ofcorse it's warmer there.

If it is nippy I wrap the towell around over my jamas, and just scuttle.

I would draw the line at dressing gowns and slippers, on a camping holiday............

Well - I'll admit I wear a dressing gown to head to the showers . It's easier as others have said elsewhere.

The dressing gown hangs up - and once I'm dry it does not get wet from being in contact with the damp [ sometimes flooded from the previous occupant's shower] floor.

I have memories though of one occasion in Saumur when I emerged from my shower cubicle at the same time as the Gent from the next door one - and he was just wearing a hip replacement scar :)

UK is one story but in Agay we were camped next to a mature mum come model for larger chested ladies underwear and her two model daughters, they topped up there all over tans all day for their "work" and then at night donned flowing to the ground night gowns that they headed to the shower blocks in, returning after their showers with some strange white face packs that seemed to glow in the dark, spooky or what! It was like three ghostly witches coming through the site.

Don't see any problem either. What people wear is none of my business. What right have I to dictate what they should wear on their way to the shower block? If I don't like what I see, I look the other way. If they feel comfortable in their nightwear, it says something for their self confidence.

Anyone who ventures out to the toilet block in anything but full body armour needs the heads examining. Let's look at the potential hazards;

You could get hit by any one of the numerous types of balls being flung around with wild abandon, Garrotted by a kite rope, shot at, rammed in the ankle by a remote control car, have a push bike embedded in your groin area and worst of all sustain a nasty eye injury from a out of control tidily wink game. This is also assuming you are not impaled on a wind break pole or sustain third degree burns when you stumble onto someone's barbecue.

Think you are safe when you get to the sanctuary of the toilet block? Think again. chances are you will slip in the water left from the previous occupants showering antics trip over the bucket and stumble on the mob which will flick up 'rake style' and smack you square in the face.

No, I for one will never again leave the safety of my van when on site.

Re. my post earlier about the 20 stone + lady in shorts, I have no problems with it but surely she could wear a kaftan. Like I said though I admired her for her couldn't care less attitude/courage because I couldn't have done it. The funny part about it was with the motion of her walking the shorts kept disappearing up her bum and she had to keep pulling them back out. It was like the effect that happens when a carpet is laid on top of another, kept creeping. A corn grinding bum is probably the best description - hehheh!

On the same site there was a young girl who went to the shower in her t-shirt and she ran back to her caravan, because it was cold I assume because she couldn't have been embarrassed. Well she was rather well endowed in the top department and when she ran it can only be described as like two ferrets in a sack. I did have to have a "take two" at that sight :O)

Lord B. with your comment about being bitten by Rover after falling over one of his "dumps" as you put it, reinforces my comments about animals not being allowed in to pubs. Sorry mate although I've called a truce with your good self it does not mean that on times I can differ from your opinions. Life would be very boring if we all had the same opinion.

I must confess that we do each keep a set of night attire in the caravan for those "emergencies" namely, visitors staying the night, and for when the wretched car alarm has gone off at 11pm at night, for the third time!!! My husband is all too willing to go out at night with nothing on, but I wouldn't like him to frighten the neigbours!! LOL

I can't see any problem with wearing night clothes in public, so long as all the "bits" are under control!!;O)

Could this topic be joined to the topic under the heading of UK parks where a request has been made for information on naturist sites. Do they wear any form of clothing when visiting the toilet/shower blocks day or night?

We stayed at a CL last year on the return trip from a sat-sat booking at a commercial site, lovely CL no other units and bathroom window faced a disused railway cut.

As the wife and kids had had showers before leaving the commercial site it was easier to pass the shower head out of the bathroom window and have a quick shower at the side of the van - no chance of getting seen and no shower to wipe out.

I did walk around the van wrapped in a towel so can not say I went naked to the shower or that I was dressed different to anyone else whilst taking the shower.

There was definitely no need for a mop and bucket though.
