Is this unusual or standard practice?

Hi All

Just been e-mailing, ringing round to find a pitch at short notice for three weeks time. Came across a fabulous site that when contacted said they were full, however I was then put onto the manager who said he had a fully served pitch he was keeping in reserve that I could have because we were wanting to stay more than a week (10 nights).

Is this normal?

Have we just been lucky to have contacted the right place at the right time so to speak.

Yeah, we've experienced this with popular sites - July and August minimum booking of 7 nights.

The old, old story - high season, school holidays blah-di-blah-di-blah.

We don't have a problem with this, we just don't go away in July and August!

Funny thing site owners in Cornwall and other opplaces will moan if the weather is bad and numbers are down for the season but then want to pick and choose when you stay.

We had the chance of a last minute break a few years ago and phoned around the night before we headed to Cornwall only to be told every where was full. We got on the road headed for our fist choice site and were set-up by 10 am. Funnty how they could accomodate us with money in hand when the night before they were full!
