Is Visible Sat Nav illegal abroad?

Spanish law specifically refers to the use of monitors being illegal. Whether this includes satnav, I don't know. I would think that so long as the display is not too large and doesn't block vision ahead it wouldn't be a problem, especially as some cars have satnav already included as standard in the instrument panel.

I have noticed Tom Toms on the dash of some Spanish taxis so I presume there is no problem. I've used ours for a few years without bother from the law.

I know the French (so possibly other countries) are hot on speed camera detectors whether in sat nav or seperate. I have heard of people being imprisoned overnight whilst the offending items are removed from the vehicle and confiscated.

Satnav equipment that shows where speed cameras are rely on information that is relayed to them and does not detect presence of cameras itself. That is not illegal. Only detectors are illegal.
