Is your house insured while you're away?

Like ourselves, a lot of people here obviously go away from quite long trips from time to time.

Have you checked your house insurance for this?

Many of them will reduce your cover quite drastically if the property is unoccupied for more than a certain period - and I have seen this as little as 17 days!

A worrying thought - but I suspect a lot of people don't know.

Good point....most policies cover a 30 day absence from the property. Fortunately for us our 33 year old Son is still at home so our house is rarely empty.

The down side is the gas, electric and water bills still rack up while we are away for the long trip south!!!

I have run into this issue a lot both for being away for holidays and even for long work assignments. However, Saga, if you are old enough will give a straight 60 day unoccupancy, and even more for a mall fee.
