Sitting here in the caravan on Havens Blue Dolphin site in sunny Scarborough and the peace is bliss. Finally got my dongle to connect and as I'm typing this the birds are chirping outside, the sun is shining (although very windy) and the view from the front window is miles of rolling hills and fields as far as the eye can see.
No screaming kids on site as the new term has started (bless them) and only the faint sound of neighbours trying to hammer in pegs to stop their awnings taking off in the wind.
SWMBO has dropped off for 40 winks so the silence is perfect.
This is only our second season of caravanning but hopefully many more to come if I can get away from everyday stress like this.
Yes I'm happy.....

Ahh! Scarborough...probably my favourite place. We go to loads of places, but always end up back at Scarborough once or twice a year. Mind, don't stay there too long, we'll hopefully be there in the october half term....with kiddywinks in tow.

Sitting here in the caravan at the CC site at windy Low Moor near Whitby and the peace would be bliss if it wasn't blowing a hooly. Finally got my dongle to connect and as I'm typing this the wind can be heard above Holby City. The view from the front window, if it wasn't dark, is miles of rolling moors as far as the eye can see with dark broody clouds interspersed with a little sun and rain. No screaming kids on site, who needs kids screaming when the wind does just as good a job, only the faint sound of neighbours trying to hammer in pegs to stop their awnings taking off in the wind. Holby has now finished so SWMBO has dropped off for 40 winks so at last the wind has competition. Not a pretty sight as she lies, head tilted back, cakehole wide open and gills blowing out like a bullfrog on heat. This is our umpteenth season of caravanning and hopefully many more to come as long as I can get everyday stress like this. Feeling a bit better now I've taken the awning down during a lull so yes I suppose I'm happy..... ;O)

Off to blustery Bridlington today from our base camp in stormy Scarborough.
Or at least we will be once the 'better' half wakes up and emerges from her cocoon of a sleeping bag! Don't know how anyone can sleep so long when there's the excitement of Bridlingtons extensive collection of cagouls and plastic poncho's to brouse through.
I must admit I slept late too this morning, up and showered at 7am, whereas it's usually still dark when I surface - must be the sea air.
Anyway, still very happy with my lot but must go as the cocoon is stirring and no doubt a beautiful butterfly will emerge instead of the spongey rollers in hair beast that went to sleep in it last night.
Ragards to all, LADA.

Last week we were sat on Scarborough beach having fish and chips twice,it was like turning the clock back.In the days of mods and rockers,we used to go regularly on the Lambretta.Loads of fond memories.
Mind you,Im a bit biased cos Im a Yorkshireman born and bred.
Hope you have a nice quiet break, cos as you say its an excellent way of chilling out.
Cheers Richard

Thanks for the comments guys - and yes Richard, we are chilling - it's freezing outside!!
Luckily we're indoors with the heater on as the rains running down the windows so fast I can hardly see out.
Feel sorry for the people in tents on-site as they must be really damp and cold but at least the winds dropped a bit - I can go out without running from lampost to lampost inbetween gusts!
Bridlington hasn't changed since our last visit - the only difference was the amount of empty/closed shops which is a real shame however, as expected, the cagoul shops were doing a roaring trade in this weather (yes I was tempted by a bright yellow see-through plastic poncho but didn't give in).
Got a couple of wins on the prize bingo so have two boxes of licquorice allsorts to munch our way through tonight in front of the tv but have to do "the Man's Jobs" first and empty the toilet tank and fetch fresh water before nightfall or inbetween the rain pelting down.
OOPS.... there's a bit of blue sky, must dash.............

The sun is out now at Low Moor so we have decided to go exploring this afternoon to see if we can find Whitby. We've failed in the past because of the gloom, nothing but dark low cloud and driving rain but I know it was Whitby because we asked at a garage. I felt a bit like Livingstone in darkest Africa only the natives were dressed not in loin clothes but plastic covers, cagouls I think LADA called them.
Don't get me wrong. The first two weeks at Englethwaite Hall we had brilliant weather so I'm not complaining especially as my dogs pancreatitis has cleared up and my bad back has eased.
Hopefully the weather will pick up for when we go to Chatsworth next week.
It seems ages since we were at home and my big regret is that I never whittled any clothes pegs to sell to help fund the site fees.

There is nothing wrong with the weather in Yorkshire, only your choice of clothing.

And if your hoping for better at Chatsworth, its been misty , drizzly and darned damp all week in the Peak District.... so stay away , cancel your pitch and i will have it.

Hey Rob-T, let you into a little secret but promise to keep it to yourself,
find that this time of year is actually quite good, this time last year were in the Oxford area
and although bit chilly evenings, the days were pretty hot.
So on that note the further south I am, the more I'll need the sun lotion!!!!

Sorry Phil but drizzle, damp and mist will be idyllic compared to what we had at Low Moor at the beginning of the week

This morning was our last big breakfast in Scarborough and guess what we left behind????
Sunshine blue skies and white fluffy clouds!
Typical - storms, black skies and winds all week and on leaving the weather was perfect but even that couldn't put my off the place. Yesterday during a few brief mild hours, I was sitting on the cliff edge with binoculars watching the seals on the rocks below, the cormorants diving for fish and the views were breathtaking - no wonder I love this coastline so much.
Going back in 4 weeks time and can hardly wait.

The sun came out because it knew we were visiting. That's why bunting was lining the streets

We went to Morrisons after driving along the esplanade and waving at the crowds. Whitby only has a Co-op and they charge an arm and a leg. Deisel is 4p a litre dearer in Whitby compared to Cumbria.
Met some nice people on Marine Drive who had a guest house in Scarborough and was talking to them for ages. Probably because they had Miniature Schnauzers the same as us and once Her Ladyships jaw muscles kick in her cakehole goes into overdrive and I tell people that the only way she will stop is if they walk off
