It must be a mistake....

I'm entitled to four weeks holiday this year and we decided to spend all four away in the caravan with my seven month old daughter.

We decided to try booking some sites online when we came across Haven. I've stayed with Haven in statics before and while theyre a little rowdy in peak season have always been happy with them. Then we started getting quotes!

We've booked a week at Blue Dolphin in May, week at Golden Sands in July, week at Primrose Valley in September and week at Blue Dolphin in October.

All serviced pitches, saturday - next sunday (8 nights) except Golden Sands which is Saturday - Saturday.

Total cost - 216 quid! then they sent us forty quids worth of Halfords vouchers! unreal!

Yes we could end up spending a fortune on the sites but that's not what were there for - we really just wanted a base. We were expecting a letter saying 'weve made a mistake' but no - its correct!

It's not a con! I've already spent mine in there (did it straight away) - nice new number plate for the van (just got a new car) some fuel treatment (new car) and pink kids quad bike (daughter) - all unexpectedly free!

I know the Haven camps come with some bad publicity but for the price (and the fact that I've booked out of season) - I dont care!

Only stayed on a Haven site once - over easter a few years ago. We too were tempted by the cheap fee's.

Without doubt it was the worst site we have ever stayed on. The list of complaint's is far to long to go into here in full but ranged from small pitches cramped together that resembled a mudbath to unheated toilet / shower blocks with concrete floors and walls (just great in late March!!).

Suffice to say it would take a hell of a lot more than a tenners worth of Halfords vouchers to get me back there again.

Weren't very impressed with the Cotswold Haven site but the one at Goodrington Sands, Paignton was not too bad. I suppose a lot depends on the site staff and their enthusiasm to work.

We've stayed at loads of Haven sites - in Half board rooms, in statics, in our tent and more recently in our tourer. Like most things in life, some are better than others.

If you go out of the school holidays, they're fine but in the height of the season they pack you in like sardines on the touring sites. If you go in the club at the end of the season (we avoid it like the plague!) you will stick to the carpet as a seasons-worth of candy floss will have been embedded there!

Like Paul says, if you just want a base then they are great value for money as they are usually in prime locations. Wouldn't say we'd never go there again but would have to think very carefully about alternatives - our kids love them though!
