Jockey wheel/motor mover

We have just had a mover fitted and were advised to change the jockey wheel.

Size of wheel, type of tyre and cheap or a more expensive.

Any experience you can pass on would be appreciated.

I fitted a pneumatic wheel to go with my motor mover to stop the tendency to dig in on soft ground. The manufacturers advise that the van is moved with the jocky wheel trailing to minimise this tendency, but this isn't always possible. On normal ground I don't think it makes a difference.
 
When our motor mover was fitted, we were advised against a pneumatic jockey wheel, as it causes the caravan "to bounce" and the fitter suggested that this could be an issue in a tight space (we come between 2 bungalows with 4" to spare). However, twice now while being on a grass pitch the standard jockey wheel has sunk into the ground making the mover useless, as the caravan becomes stuck by the jockey wheel. Just this week I managed to reverse it out on the mover and this was more successful than going forward. I have also had similar issues on soft stoned hard standings but not actually been stuck. We only really use the mover on site if we really have to as its main use was for at home for coming in and out of the drive. However I am now thinking of changing to a pneumatic jockey wheel to prevent being stuck on site again.
 
Hi, Ive just a motor mover installed and I am thnking of changing to a pnematic tyre. Can you just but the tyre and replace? I have a Bailey bretagne series 6 any advice please?
 
When I had my Powrtouch mover fitted 7 years ago I bought a replacement jockey wheel with pneumatic tyre and had endless problems with punctures. Replaced the wheel with a solid 3 inch wide wheel and had no more problems. I noticed that on the pneumatic tyre the caravan would bounce quite a lot! My new Ace Jubilee Envoy (2007) came with 3 inch solid wheel and also works fine on all surfaces.
 
I had a puncture with my pneumatic wheel, my tyre dealer pointed out the inner tubes are 'built down' to a price. Replaced with a better class of inner tube and no further problem except that the valve fitting comes out at an angle and rubbed against the fork holding the wheel. Solved this by inserting a thick washer on the that side of the axle between wheel and fork. Still rubs a bit but given the speed and mileage a jockey wheel will do I am not worried by that.
 
Depends on wether the fork holding your present wheel is wide and deep enough to take the pneumatic wheel. Mine was not so I kept the entire old jockey wheel fitting to put back as and when I replace the 'van. Entire units or just wheel and tyre are available at most accessory shops where you should find someone who can help you.
