hi,

be aware that the gap in which the wheel sits may not be wide enough to fit a pnuematic wheel, you may have to buy the whole lot as i had to.

My friend had a pneumatic wheel fitted by a dealer who just used the old unit and bent the forks to fit it

It was useless and we had to replace the lot

If you get the Alko one its a bit longer and you can replace the split pin with an R clip should you need to remove the wheel for going on to ferries etc if you have the infuriating inside the A frame fitting

A lot depends on the ferry, the ramp and the state of the tide but I have met several people who suffered damaged/smashed JWs and so I play it safe after mine groundig a few times and on the Swift having a cracked A frame cover

Its much more difficult with the inside the A frame type and especially with Swift and their A frame cover that is lower at the back where the JW is parked

The Bailey seems a much better arrangement

Its easier to pull out a pin and just remove the wheel

We have exactly the same set up as John G. Swift could really do with making the A frame cover a bit bigger so a pneumatic wheel can fit in properly; so many people have them. We tended to find our wheel touched speed ramps, which in France seem to be more and more common. I don't think we have bottomed out on the ferry. I also now have a R clip to remove the wheel. Our jockey wheel is also Alko following a rubbish one where the forks were just not strong enough.

After having two pnuematic tyres, 1st plastic hub split after a couple of outings, 2nd alko had a steel hub, even when fully retracted fell foul of some speed humps, ****** to keep the right air pressure , used a cycle pump with a high pressure attachment, after a punchure when trying to reverse the van, caused alot of problems, went back to the alko solid tyre , never had any problem using it on hard standings.

The pnuematic tyre us heavier so watch your nose weights.

I find the Bailey better
