Joining one of the clubs

Hi, quick question, is it worthwhile joining one of the two caravan clubs as there appears to be so many independant sites out there? If yes, which would be the prefered club?

You may have asked a 'quick question' but there isn't a 'quick answer'. Which club you join is down to personal preference. You will get a whole raft of answers saying which is best. Notwithstanding, when you join a club not only can you go to a main site but each club has about 2000 each 5-van sites that are open to members only. CC has CLs (Certified Locations) and the C&CC has CSs (Certified Sites).

We belong to both clubs and use both club sites and also their CL and CS. We just use the site nearest to where we want to go and have no preference as to which club runs the site.
When we go to Crufts we alternate each year. One year we use the CC site at Chappel Lane and the next the C& CC Kingsbury Water Park site. This March it is Kingsbury.
When we visit Malvern this year it is a CC site and in April we are on a C&CC CS near Bath.
Variety is the spice of life

We are in both clubs because of the variety offered. The mayday green flag recovery service offered by the CC is second to none. If you like rallies the clubs offer these in spades.

joining at least one of the 2 clubs does carry extra benefits the low joining fee could easily be covered through decent caravan cover or breakdown cover for your car and outfit.. everythings on the web so looking at both major club websites you can see which sites you would like to visit and which payment set up you prefer, unless its changed of later C/C and C/C/C, differed slightly on how on site charges were drawn up, pitch fees people children ect ect depending if you are a couple or large family one might suit you more so than another...

Join both.
Cheap as chips, monthly magazines. Excellent insurance and breakdown schemes. Both have an excellent variety of sites.

We have been members of CCC for years, but very very rarely use their sites due to the cost. We used to feel we recouped the membership cost when booking a Foresty commision site, once a year, but that doesn't happen now. We find campsites that are just as good if not better through UKcampsites. Seems that the cost of membership now is covering the monthly magazines and are considering cancelling subsription for 2015. Quite a shame really. Each to their own I suppose.

In some respects I would agree with jackwing, but then I think of some of the lovely CLs and CSs we've used over the years, and count up the money I've saved on ferry fares by booking through the CC, and it all seems worthwhile.
Mind you, I have had a couple of head-to-heads with the CC over the years, and do think that they are getting above themselves at times. They seem to forget that they are there to serve the members.
But I'll still my memberships for the moment......................

Hi Dave n Gill, I've been a member of the C&CC for almost 25 years now. I joined when we were still camping, because I felt they were more camper-friendly than the CC. I have used commercial sites from time to time, but find that in high season the spacing between units is a bit.....intimate, shall we say. (I don't want to be able to hear my neighbours snoring or, um, doing other things...!) Both clubs insist on a certain width being maintained between units, for safetys sake. I always find the standards of cleanliness exemplary at Club sites, again, some independent sites I've visited leave a lot to be desired in that respect. There's also the issue of security; I always feel, now I'm a single person, more secure at a Club site, and if you prefer the quiet life, you have no noisy bars & discos keeping you awake. (Or am I just a boring ol' fart who needs to get out more???)

We are members of both clubs but I would only do that if you are going to use the caravan a lot on club sites. Both clubs provide good quality sites but while there is nothing wrong with C&CC sites CC ones are a bit better maintained and they have more but coverage in different areas does vary.
On CC sites you chose your pitch from the type you have booked from what is available but on C&CC sites they allocate you one although on most sites they do discuss what you want first and try to accomodate you but this can cause delays. The CC takes bookings without deposits and you pay on arrival, but the C&CC takes them (£25 or 25% if higher or the full cost if less than £25) and they are lost if you cancel within 31 days.
Both offer excellent deals on recovery which are far more comprehensive than other offers and better but not cheaper caravan insurance. The CC service is superb and the reports on the C&C one are also very good.
The C&CC gives discounts to over sixties outside peak season which may be relevant but there are other offers by both clubs.
Both give monthly magazines, in our opinion the CC one is far better but that is a matter of opinion.
They both have equally good foreign touring services with discounts on ferries.
Hope this helps.
