joints on the roof

I notice that manufacturers have started to put the joint between the front and rear panels high on the roof now - do

you think they will last as long as joints that were lower

down (above the front windows) ? as the rain must accumulate

between joints with only the side to runoff as it were. I remember the ABI vans with the fairing at the rear having these

roof joints which seemed to be prone to leaking after a few years.

Hi Steve,

As with any joint it will be a weak point and over time the sealant will deteriorate.

I believe that I am right that it is recommended that sealant is replaced every 5 years.

This is one reason to make sure you have your van serviced, or service it yourself, regularly, and that all joints are checked for sealant quality and integrity.

Steve, thats the problem, many people do not bother, as accessing the roof is not easy , however, it is not a case of what others do, it is definately a case of what YOU do to protect your not inconsiderable investment.
