Just dried off after walking the dog in what can only be described as a monsoon. Even the dog was looking at me with an "are you mad?" expression. But the media keep telling us "its a drought" "Just like 1976".

I remember 1976. It wasn't like this. It was hot; very hot; and primarily NOT RAINING.

Back in '76 I seem to recall they appointed a Minister for drought and the heavens opened. Perhaps the water companies keep banging on about the "drought" in the hope it will rain all summer so we'll not notice the real problem is their failure to repair leaking pipes.

Ahh, 1976...
A baking hot summer with tabloid headlines stating the obvious 'Another Scorcher' alongside pictures of scantily clad ladies.

This was before the days of 'weather warnings' and 'global warming' aka 'climate change' when we're knee deep in snow.
It seems to me that the met office has some kind of agenda to spread alarm and despondency and to convince us that we are to blame for Snow in Winter, March Winds, April Showers etc; and must therefore be punished by having wind farm monstrosities blighting every beauty spot,sky high energy prices complete with stealth tax 'renewable energy' surcharges, and the man made climate change student politics ideology elevated almost to the status of a religion, with us 'unbelievers' and sceptics cast as lunatic flat earth Luddites.

What really makes me laugh is that the met office muppets can't tell us with any reasonable degree of accuracy what the weather will be like next week, but we're expected to believe that they can predict 'climate change' in 50 years time.

Oh for the days when the weather was read by a mustachioed bespectacled bloke with a stick and a map with squiggles and numbers on it. The bloke simply read what he thought the weather would be like the next day, no 'severe weather warnings' or reports for those attending a football match in Brighton or Newcastle, no grim dramatic tone previously reserved for the outbreak of war when reading the forecast, and no hidden agendas either, just dear old Dennis Howell.

Meanwhile nowadays the greediest energy consumers on the other sde of the Atlantic turn up their air conditioners when it's warm, the central heating is stiflingly hot when the weather is cold and they drive around in vehicles that do 12mpg - and the climate change zealots who want to put us all back on bicycles jet around the globe to conferences to find ways of making us here in the UK pay for everybody elses greed.

They cannot even get the weather correct for tomorrow never mind May. However I have to concede that they can accurately predict the weather in 10 years time. Maybe .......

My ex headed for pastures new 16 years later so I was blissfully unaware during that long hot summer of 76 that there was stormy weather ahead

Well I do actually know I had the Tartan scarf around my wrist

walking through the park hand in hand with a member of the female kind and when we got to the centre of town she told me to get rid of it.
I did........................................... and a week later...................................she got rid of me

My Kid brother was the one with the Bay City Rollers strides, I'm older than I look you know.......

I was all growed up and listening to This sort of thing back in 1976

) and two friends.
Best thing was, we'd stayed in a lovely B & B in Old Knebworth (No glamping in those days at festivals) and on leaving, the owner presented us with the bill. We paid, and went out to the car. I noticed a mistake and went back in. He said 'We NEVER make a mistake with our bills' so I left - and never went back to tell him that he'd only charged us for one room for one night, instead of two rooms for two nights!!!!

I don't remember in the 76 drought Tewkesbury flooding Billing Aquadrome being evacuated,Cosgrove evacuated fields round here again flooded anyway I washed the van in the rain ready for tomorrow and let the torrential rain rinse it off
