Hi I'm new here & need a little help

We are about to buy an 03 Sedona 2.9 Auto to tow our Abbey County Oxford, my questions is not so much about the towing side but specifically about the autobox.

The Sedona we test drove had a very smooth gear change, unlike our present tow car (Shogun 3.0 V6 Auto) is this normal??

We have an 05 Sedona diesel Auto and tow a Pennine Pathfinder MTPLM 1000 kgs. We have had no problems towing with the Kia so far (touch wood). The auto box is fairly smooth and if you just let the big torquey engine do the hard work then it should be OK. If you try to rush the car and floor the throttle, either with a trailer or without, you will find that it simply changes down a gear or two and the revs go right up, making a lot of noise with little increase in performance. We find that steady acceleration gets the car easily up to the legal limit. Motorway towing is very relaxing and hills that slow other units down tend to not bother us. Keeping down to the limit can be hard, though the Pennine is fairly low profile, despite being not that light.

As regards losing cash on the car, the initial depreciation can be quite high, rather than subsequent ownership.

Overall, we have found it to be an excellent family and towcar for the six of us, but if you want cornering or acceleration you need to look elsewhere.

I'm with Paul on this one - had two Shoguns and can't think a Sedona is in the same league and aggree about the depreciation too.

Also you must have a prob with your gearbox, the Aisin Warner box in the Mk ii Shogun is a superb and the Tiptronic on the latest model is as good as anything Jag or BMW put out - in my experience anyway.

Hi stephen

The sedona is a great towcar Im on my second one now as a family car its very good ,the sliding doors are an asset, all rear seats are removable to make an excellent load carrier. It will pull even the heavier vans up to 2000kgs with relative ease I regularly pulled a t/a german van to Spain and bag with no problems.they are very economical 42mpg solo and 30 towing the autos have slightly less mpg by a couple of miles.

The running costs will be less than a 4x4, A friend of mine runs 3 sedonas as taxis one them an auto and found to be reliable paying out for tyres and rear shocks but they are well over the 100,000 miles mark.
