Hi All,

Just come back from a week in Tenby at the Haven site Kiln Park. Awful time and awful site. No storm drains on touring pitches so most of the awnings were flooded as we had some bad rain. One man dug trench around his awning to stop the rain coming in and alledgly been charged with criminal damage. Several tents were abandoned as they were under about 4 inches of water. Dirty showers with mould/mildew growing on the walls. Club house supposed to hold 800 but far too cramped in my opinion. Swimming pool was cold and far too small for the site and the on site shop was not well stocked. Been in statics on Haven sites for many years, this is the first time touring - will not go there again.

Thanks for posting this. I'm depressed now! Off to Kiln Park next week, looks like we'll be packing the waders.

Let us know what happens with your complaint to Haven. Probably nothing, as they really do not seem to care about tourers/tenters at all.

Hi Lee

Just looked at the long range weather forecast for Tenby - not good!

Can you remember if there are any of the pitches which were better than others? We have booked one of the serviced pitches so that should hopefully help, but any advise you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks

Iain

Hi Iain,

We have been to Kiln Park many times over the years, and yes it does get a bit soggy when its rained heavily.

If you have booked one of the fully serviced pitches its one of the best places to be pitched but even some of those pitches can hold the water in places. I would think by now, after the summer we have had, there will be signs of wear and tear on the ground as everyone will pitch to keep the awning out of the wet bits so the grass could be a bit thin in places.

As its a very flat park, its not much higher than the stream that goes around the edge. Although the stream is some way from the caravan park, the geography of the place means that the storm water does not have anywhere to drain to quickly.

I've always found the shower block to be clean but I would think that in peak holiday times the sheer weight of numbers of people using them would have an impact on cleanliness. They always used to clean them twice a day and have staff on duty in the block all day.

Anyway, Kiln park is great when the sun shines, its within walking distance of Tenby so you don't need to get the car out if you go out at night. We don't use the club house at it does get a bit noisy for us and we dont have kids to entertain.

Have a great break whatever the weather.

Unfortunetly living near to Tenby and being an amature weather station owner, I can only concur the forcast is not that good at all. Indeed it looks like being very unsettled for at least the next few weeks including BH.

According to at least one posting,(sorry can't remember if on here or elsewhere now) Kiln Park have written to some people cancelling their bookings due to flooding of the touring fields. There have also been other postings about the cleaniness of the facilities this year.

Yes, the pitches do get flooded out not all but the majority i have been to kiln park a few times and was lucky not to be affected but it does not matter where you are serviced or not the pitches have dips in them and hold a lot of water in fact the serviced are worst, showers could do with updating but are ok in my opinion, the pool is disappointing but if its fine walk down to the sea and swim but all in all i would NEVER pay the premium prices they charge for the peak season

Just came back from Tenby and we called in to look round Kiln Park - was just awash with water, all the tents were soaked and full of water and most people were just chucking them in the car or even the bin. all the roads were flooded on there and the touring section was also boggy and very very wet - glad I didn't pick to go there. Better drainage needed for a very flat site.

Hi ALl,

We have just returned from St Davids and went over to Tenby for the day, on the way back we called into Kiln Park for a look and it was horrible, I couldnt believe the mess there - churned up mud and tents sitting in the middle of massive puddles.

The "fully serviced pitches" didnt look brilliant, they were on grass (+ mud).

Most of the awnings had sand bags around them.

Most of the tent area was cordoned off.

I don't know about taking the wellies - a snorkel and flippers might have been more use!

We arrived on the Monday (18th) and they closed the site and advised all tourers to leave on the Wednesday due to the risk of further flooding. Couldn't use any of the premier pitches due to waterlogging.

By Wednesday evening there were only a handfull of caravans (and a few tents) left. The flood waters came within about 50' of the 'van and then receeded with the passing of the spring tide, and for the rest of the week no new arrivals were allowed.

Weather was generally bl**dy awful, but you can't blame Haven for that. Having so few people using the facilities did give them a chace to give them a thorough clean after several voluable complaints to the General Manager, and following that they weren't too bad.

Kiln Park is built on reclaimed land. You only have to look out from the top of South Beach to see that. It's only the dunes across the bay that stop it washing everything away. Locals told us that the park floods every year so you would have thought that a suitably worded warning should be given to anyone booking a pitch on this site.

We ended up coming back a day early. Mainly because the forecast for our official leaving day was for very high winds again and I didn't fancy dragging the mobile roadblock for 7 hours in high winds. Call me chicken if you like but I felt it sensible to leave early and travel in safety/comfort.
