We are thinking about what we need for our caravan. Bought it recently, haven't had one before. Does everyone keep crockery etc in the van all the time and are sleeping bags better than duvets.
Thank God for that!Tina is perfectly correct of course. However size doesn't always matter.

Thanks for that crissie, I will look out for it when next in franceArcopal is a French brand of toughened glass, a bit like Pyrex, but they make crockery, etc. The most reliable source is, as has been said, a French hypermarket, but I did buy mine in a John Lewis sale a few years ago, so it is worth keeping your eyes open! Our mugs and soup/cereal plates are Arcopal, because we found that melamine seemed to leach the flavour from drinks etc, but we have stuck with the melamine plates that came with our first outfit, over 20 years ago. Our glasses are Luminarc, another French brand, bought in hypermarkets. We have beer glasses and small, short-stemmed wine glasses and have kept the cardboard sleeves that they came in to protect them 'on the road'. This seems to work pretty well - we haven't needed any replacements in 5 years of use.
I think as far as overall kit goes, initially, you just have to opt for the minimum that will see you through, taking stuff from home if necessary. Once you have had a few trips away, you will begin to know what is important to you and gradually you can begin to add the things you know that you need and ditch the items you find you never use.
