Knaresbrough site has a club room/bar which serves evening meals - or did two years ago. Knaresbrough itself has a fascinating town centre with the 'Oldest Chemists Shop' in Britain, Mother Shiptons cave with petrifying well, rowing on the river. And a shop between the market place and the castle which sells a mean black cherry ice cream. Harrogate nearby for burning the plastic, Bettys Tea Shop and a spa where you can get the water which smells absolutely disgusting - once smelt never forgotten - Harlow Carr Gardens not far which includes the national rhubarb collection. Take your own custard.

Hawes near Brown Moor has the Wensleydale Creamery, the scones with cheese in the cafe come with about half a weeks supply of the cheese. Not masses to see in Hawes itself but the surrounding countryside is great for walking and for dogs. Interesting country museum at the old station midway between the site and Hawes, rope makers nearer town. There was a games room near reception which kept our grandson happy.

We enjoyed both sites each in their own different ways and will visit again.

Brown Moor is one of our favourite sites. It is a short walk from the site to Hawes and there are some coffee shops, gift shops etc and a second hand book shop in which I always manage to find some good value paperbacks.

The rope makers is very interesting but you need to visit during the week to see them work. I think it is shut on Sundays but the shop is open Saturdays.

As mentioned the Wensleydale creamery is good to visit but I think the cheese making also is just midweek (not sure about Saturdays) Lovely cafe/restaurant there.

There is a warehouse on a very small industrial estate between the site and the town which has nice/unusual foodstuffs and lovely vegetables which are kept fresh in walk-in refridgerated rooms.

Wensleydale itself is lovely to visit with Aysgarth falls, lovely villages and walks and Leyburn and Bedale at the eastern end of the dale

P.S.

Thinking of Leyburn - The Tea Pottery, the home of the eccentric tea pot, is there; also, on the same estate, a chocolate factory which makes moulded shoes, logs, teddy bears etc. in chocolate. Possible Christmas presents ? ? Leyburn market - forget which day - has a wonderful fish van.

Knaresborough is a nice site with plenty to do and see in the area. Brown Moor is one of our favourites though, apart from what other people have said Malham Cove and the three peaks are also relatively close.
