Hi all

I need help, I am trying to help my girlfriend Dad out (he's 72)he has been caravaning it since the 60's. He has bought a Abbey Vogue 417 GTS 1998 caravan, and he needs to purchase a new wheel trim. I have done some searching but have come up with nothing, does anybody out there know where i could get a new one from please? If i could get him the answers, then he will be over the moon with me, as i normally help him out, but i am stuck on this on.

Thanks in advance all.

Hi Ian,

Pardon my asking but are we on about the kind of thing that covers the modern car steel wheel? Or are we on about those frisby sized discs that used to be fitted on cars from the fifties and sixties.

If its the former, all you have to do is buy a replacement cheap wheel cover from the scrap yard. They would probably give you it if it wasnt marked up as for a specific model of car. Get one that closely matches the one already on the caravan(take it with you) Bear in mind that no one and I mean NO ONE would notice that your pops caravan is fitted with different wheel covers because............ You cant see both sides of the caravan at the same time.

Hi Del,

I have jst spoken with him and he has said yes to the flimsy frisbie type wheel cover....Do you know of any scrap places in the UK at all.... I didn't realise there was caravan scrap yards, shall have a better look for it now.

Cheers Del,

Iain

as Mike says most car accesory shops sell wheel trims and in all sizes from 12 inch to 18 inch, only down side is that most sell them in sets of four but at least you will have some spares. try tying them on with cable ties when you get the new ones but dont forget something to cut the ties if you need to change the wheel.

As I said in reply to Iain. You dont need to buy four. Go to ANY car scrap yard(every town has one)and ask for one or two generic wheel trims of the right size.

Nearly every car that ends its life in a yard will have the trims already on. If they are of the type where the owner has replaced them during the life of the car and not marked with the car makes logo then they will be worth nothing to the yard. This is especially so if, as the result of an accident, one of the trims is missing. (have you ever noticed the numerous varieties of designs available)You will pick two up for next to nothing. You could of course buy four and have two spares but I guarantee you will not use them.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the advice, got loads of leads to follow up on now. Only, I think t'other half means wheel trim/arch and not a hub cap....Pardon me for being totally illiterate with regards to caravans, but i am pondering whether i need a wheel trim/arch or a hub cap....

Thanks again for all the info peeps. :)

Iain,

The wheel trims you are talking about are sometimes refered to as 'spats' and can be obtained from www.eeco-ltd.com if you tell them which van/model/year you are looking for.

If nothing else, it may be worth while getting in touch with them and maybe, sent in the right direction to finding what you want.

regards,

Pop
