Have you had a conversation to duel fuel Petrol & LPG on your car. Please share your views about

1. Standard of work carried out.

2. Cost of conversation.

Salad dodger,

If you want a vehicle that runs on lpg buy a forklift truck, the cost of conversion and time taken to recover initial outlay it would be money better spent on another towcar.

You loose half your boot space with the new lpg tank, and you will be driving around in a car you were initially unhappy with due to its heavy fuel consumption trying to kid yourself that the

Not quite sure what Dannys point is when LPG is 35p or so cheaper per litre.

That means that roughly 952 gallons will pay for the conversion !

A high mileage motorist will make savings quickly and its even cheaper for those towing in France.

Danny if a car only does 16 MPG on unleaded and converted to gas that costs about half that equates to 32 mpg and it is also a cleaner fuel.

It does take time to get the conversion return but surely that is down to individuals use an d the toime they keep the car and trade in value as running on LPG the price is normally higher!

I can't see the problem.

I have no personal experiance of LPG conversions but my son drove a converted delivery van and he was amased at the savings...but he was driving around 1000 miles a week.

I suspect everyone has different needs. There are pros and cons and each person needs to assess their own usage before reaching a final desision. Points to consider are:

Initial cost of conversion.(

The major problem with this discussion is that almost all of the posters have no personal experience of LPG. whilst I fully accept that everyone is entitled to an opinion, on any subject under the sun, my posts re LPG are not just opinion, they are FACTS, as applied to my personal position. I repeat, I have run LPG powered cars for over five years now, have not lost any boot space, have never had a problem getting repairs on the one occasion I needed it, and have saved many thousands of pounds. The other argument that has not been aired is the supposed lack of filling station selling LPG. I believe there is now over 2000 in the country. Should you find yourself without gas between stations, switch to expensive petrol, and cry all the way to the next one!!To each his own.

The other major problem with this discussion, as with any discussion, is that someone always deems themselves an expert on a point of discussion. If someone else then throws in their point whether it be fact or fiction it seems to stir the plot somewhat.

People must remember that many people on this forum would not know the other person if they came upto them in the street and poked them in the eye, they also do not know what the other does for a living or how much of an expert they are on the given subject.

Like I said earlier these are just opinions and maybe based on facts, personal experience, or just read from the internet.

Maybe I am being over sensitive ?

Don't throw in the towel, your opinion is as valid as anyone elses.

When someone resorts to labeling your post as "utter rubbish" they have already lost the argument.

I don't have any experience of LPG but it amuses me that someone would buy a car then spend another

seth, the logistics of converting large diesel engines to run on LPG are horrificaly expensive. There is a system available which injects LPG into the engine a the critical moment, but I'm not sure of the facts of that, and as , in spite of Danny's idea to the contrary, I'm not an expert, simply a satisfied user, I'll refrain from commenting on that.

Before you go, answer the question -- why do you buy a vehicle with such lousy fuel consumption in the first place then pay to have all the gubbins fitted to use LPG?

Dead simple answer to that one.See my other posts. I just love Range Rover V8s, but as a pensioner, I could not afford one on petrol. I used to, when I was working, and LPG gave me the means to carry on driving RRs when I retired.

Hiya,

My brother-in-law has a citreon xsara 2.0 and has had it converted to lpg and it cost him about 1500 pound he tows a avondale dart 6 birth and what he said to me was that its not worth towing on the lpg cos it costs a lot more he lives near redcar and we often have the weekends away in harrogate and it takes almost a full tank of lpg to get there 70 odd miles and only quarter of a tank on petrol But he also says that he can never get a full fill on his conversion for reasons unknown even by the garage where he gets it serviced.

But what he also said was that for what it costs him to go to work and doing the running around it was well worth the money and it took just over a year to recoup the money he paid out for the conversion.

I also had a astra and thatwas factory fitted and it was great running around paying about 15 pound a week for a full tank but unfortunetly it wasnt man enough to pull our caravan or any caravan for that matter otherwise i would still have it.

Andy.
