Labrador in Caravan When Traveling

Does anyone have any ideas about allowing a dog namely our labrador to travel in the caravan when we are touring. It seems like a good idea to give her space and allow us to utilise the boot of the car more efficiently hense keeping excess weight out of the van, she is a good dog who is used to lying in the kitchen alone if we are work and if we have parties at home we bring the caravan home and she gets to sleep there without any jumping about

Any advice welcome

Thanks Guys

Davie

I really don't think that's such a brilliant idea. The first time you ever need to make an emergency brake the poor animal would be catapulted from from end to the other and who knows how many sharp edges it may meet on the way.

davie, some people I know of did that with their 2 Cavalier King Charles spaniels. Unfortunately they had an accident and the van went over. Both dogs managed to get out of the wreckage but we can only imagine how terrified they were. They both ran off, somehow managing to avoid getting run over. It was weeks later before one of the dogs were found but sadly the other one never was.

Not being rude. But you would be "BARKING MAD" to do it.

Maybe you've been having an off day ;-)

Your dog is your best friend, and it is illegal to put any human friend in the van when towing it!

Your dog deserves the same treatment :)

We are having breakfast here and Ken's 5 dogs are laid around the pool and patio in the sun with their paws over their eyes;-)

I read the post out and can't put what Ken said :-( The dogs looked really worried :-(

ps. A friends daughter had a car that had just past her on the A3 have a large Lab type dog jump out of the open rear window !

The guy had opened the rear window by mistake! the story is to bad to put details but involved the young lady and the driver and others sobbing at the side of the road along with others.

Many van doors can easily be opened by dogs and I've seen windows flapping open on vans going along the road.

MADNESS.

I think Davie must have had a bad day on this one and I'm sure he loves his dog and will forget he ever asked this ?

I think we should close this subject NOW.

Before it gets to personal :-(

It is legal but totally unacceptable from a care point of view. also concider how the a large dog like the lab would effect the stability as it wandered around the van, not a good idea forget it.

I have an estate cris with a dedicated dog cage in the back so thankully that will not happen to me. I can see how it could happen though if you have electric windows, many times Ive lowered the rear ones by mistake.

My cars rear windows do not open (very rear about 2" )

The dogs have harness and a large rear Net bunk that they travel on when the rear seats are out. They are Secure and they love their space on the net bunk, the rear of my new Merc is huge as its the extra long option.

I for one wouldn't get personal with davie cris, we all ask silly questions at times without thinking, I know I do. It's only after asking and hearing of others experiences that you learn. I'm sure he asked with the best intentions but I'm sure there will be at least one poster who will attack him for even daring to think about putting his dog in the van. As I said earlier, none of us are perfect, with the exception of Her Ladyship that is. At least thats what she keeps telling me for the past 40 years ;O)

You are brave Davie. Lord B is a lovely chap :) But I'm to be avoided as I have to many bad habits and I'm a "wind up" merchant.

With a heart of Gold of course ;-) I must have, owning 4 dogs!

Callow Top is fine if you like a busy site with average facilities and not too much room .It used to be a really good site but now seems over commercialised. The access road in good fun!its really steep with a blind bend undr the bridge.

Has anyone thought of problems that any animal (large or small) being carried in a caravan can cause. Just think that each time your dog decides to move his position he could possibly change the nose weight ratio! I prefer my mut in the car with me. She travels safely inside a cage made specifically for her safety.
