Want to visit lake district begining of august with slightly disabled wife and 2 grown up daughters. Looking for a level grass pitch with hookup and shower facilities. Could anyone reccomend a sight, offering the above facilities. Not really bothered where in the district. Being a fairley new caravanner, have not been to that area as yet. Would be grateful for any suggestions.

Hi Norman

Southlakelands sites are lovely, we regularly go to limefitt but you would need a car if you wanted to go into windermere, there other site is fallbarrow which is on the shore of windermere in bowness,it would be ideal if you have a disabled partner as it is near to everything. White cross bay my sister has been to and again she said it was a lovely site also !! Only drawback, they ARE popular so would be phoning Now if you have any chance of getting in for august !

You could not wish for a better site than C&CC in Keswick, there are also two more but they are top of the hill so might not be ok for your wife although my Wife has problem but did not find it too much problem .

Hi Norman,

Maybe worth having a look at following Caravan Club Sites - Low Park Wood Near Kendal and Troutbeck between Keswick and Penrith.

We used Troutbeck last year with my daughter who was 8 months old at the time and my mother and father in law in tow. My father in law is similar to your wife in that he is registered disabled having broken his back a few years ago but is mobile.(albeit slowly in the mornings). The large shower facilities etc at Troutbeck and other Caravan Club sites are ideal.

The down side of Troutbeck is that there are no amenities in walking distance although the site and location are tremendous. Keswick is about 11 miles away and Penrith about 9 miles along the A66 so it does not take long to get to either. Goind to the South Lakes is a bit a windy route but as we were on holiday and the scenery was stunning we did not mind.

This year we are going to try Low Park Wood which is about 4 miles from Kendal and better placed for touring South and North Lakes (have stayed in this areas a number of times over the past few years but not at Low Park). If this is up to the usual CC standrds it will be perfect.

Both sites still had vacancies when I looked last week.

Happy Caravanning!!
