Hi, this is my first post so please bear with me! (I tried the search function but didn't find what I wanted)

I am looking for a caravan site in the Lake District with good mountain views from the pitch if possible. I have found a couple od Certified Locations near Gosforth, and they looked fairly close to Scafell Pike?

I'm open to all sugestions of any area, as I don't really know the area. Electric hookup is prefered but not essential (caravan is fully self contained American Tourer) I will be with my Wife and three children, but they are always happy wherever we park so just a field would do! but they wouldn't complain if there was more on site!

Most campsites I found that looked suitable, only allowed tents and campervans??? I don't know why a tourer is any different to a campervan?

Thanks for any help

Chris

Chris,

Troutbeck Head Caravan Club site, between Keswick and Penrith, 1mile south of main road.

Wonderfull views of Blencathra ( Saddleback ).

Good walks from site and real country pubs close by.

Excellent C.C. loo blocks.

Hi Chris

In my opinion, you can't do better than the C&CC site at Keswick. It's on the shores of Derwent Water, Skiddaw behind you, Catbells off to one side. Wherever you look, there are mountains. Go at Easter or October time and you could be treated to snow-capped peaks.

What makes it so brilliant is that you have all this wilderness at your fingertips and yet the lovely town of Keswick is just a five minute walk away.

We love it.

Hi Chris,

As a 'local' to the Lake District I'd probably go for the Keswick area or somewhere near Ullswater - I think there are a few sites near to Pooley Bridge that are quite nice.

If all else fails just pop round to where I live - views of the fells from front garden, Scotland from the back garden and 2 minutes from the sea!!! No hook-ups here though!!

Hope you find somewhere nice!

Jules

Just to add....if you go onto their web site ....find troutbeck head and then look for the heading "Site Overview " there are a few photos to give you an idea of what it is like.

Wow, thanks for all the quick replies! (and I know it sounded a bit of an odd question, given the surroundings!)

I'll have a look at the places mentioned, and see how I get on.

I only knew of Scafell Pike from my teenage years when doing the D of E award!!! (I remebered a good view, and thought I'd take the kids there - but this time I won't be in a cold tent!)

Hi Chris

We've just got back from Castlerigg Farm site in Keswick the views are 360 deg looking down Baessenthwaite Lake and over Derwentwater. The fells are breathtaking you can see Blencathera Helvelyn, Catbells, you can walk from this site up onto High Seat and look down onto Thirlmere and over to Great Gable, Green Gable and the back of Scafell. There's another site opposite called Castlerigg Hall site with views equally as good, We're from the western side of the lakes and there is a unwritten rule that there is a restriction on tourers at sites at Nether Wasdale, Wasdale and Eskdale (all close to the Gosforth area you've been looking at), something to do with the lake district planning board not allowing them, but for some reason they allow camper vans - which can be equally as big. The roads are pretty tight the further you go inland there. There is a nice Club site at a place called Ravenglass on the west coast where you can get a small gauge train called the Lal Ratty up the Eskdale valley with spectacular views and great walks and pubs en-route!

Hope this helps

Mark
