lake of Ste Croix - Provence

Hi, has anyone stayed in this area particually on this lake, was wondering if the beaches on the lake were shingle or sand and is it a nice area etc... any info will be appreciated. Thank you Mick

Hello Michael.

We stayed on the on the eastern shore of the lake at Les Salles-sur-Verdon in May and loved every minute of it. We intended to stay for a few days and stayed for over a fortnight ( but we were on a trip measured in months not weeks ).

The site we stayed on was Camping les Pins which we intend to go back to again next year. You will find it at.

Next door to it was Camping La Source which looked OK .

there are sites on the opposite side of the lake but the access roads are particularly steep. As to the area, it's very scenic and an absolute must is to take a leisurely day along the Canyon de Verdon to Castellane - go along the north side of the canyon and return on the south.

Another enjoyable trip is to drive around the lake making a point to call in at Baudeun.

As to the beaches, the one we used across the road from the site gave the option of sitting on grass or very fine gravel.

Hope this helps,

Olly.

Hello Michael,

I am writing to you from Poland, but I am a really fan of spending holiday in France. I go there every year with my family and we always want to come back there. We have been on Lake of Ste Croix twice and we always have had a big problem with finding a place , so my advice is to book a place some moths before. This is really fantastic place, especially that you can swimming there, walking, cycling, clibing rafting and so on. And thats incredible smell of lavende. This year we stayed on a camp near Moustiers St Marie http://www.provenceweb.fr/e/alaupro/moustier/moustier.htm- it is a fantastic city. It name is Le Moulin - it isn't very comfortable, but there is a very familiar atmosphere and it is cheap. There is also not so far to the beach - about 10 minutes. You must be carefull - many campings has a long way to the beach because they are on the top of hill. I especially recommend you the trip round the canyon - there are wonderfull wievs.

Have a good holidays

Kate
