robert, My Siemens / Fijitsu runs in my car on a dc PSU. It is the correct one for the laptop and turns 12v dc to approx 16v.

I should think they areavailable for all makes of lap top, determine what the power supply that you use for mains gives as the output voltage.

You could simply use an inverter. I did that last summer whilst we had no hook-up for 2 weeks in the new Forest.

Inverter plugged into cigar lighter socket in car or into 12 volt socket in caravan and ran laptop ok.

It's probably inefficient as the inverter ups the volts to 240 and the laptop transformer drops the voltage again, but it certainly works and inverters are easy to get hold of, Argos is a good place to start looking.

robert, I have checked the power supply this morning. It can provide a stable 16v DC o/p with an input between 11v and 24v. I do not know where it was purchased as it belongs with my work laptop but any supplier of Siemens/ Fujitsu would be able to get one. Beware they are expensive, I think in the order of

Hi,

Maplin certainly have some DC to DC converters suitable for laptops, but you do need to check it has the required o/p volts and amps.

Aldi have recently had a small inverter, which is suitable, it also has a handy USB port on it - great for charging the Ipod etc. These are available until stocks last,

Maplin and several other shops (Halfords etc) also do ranges of inverters.

It is best to use inverters only when the engine is running
