Last used the van in June -what should I be doing?

Apart from using it more!

The taps were all left open and the water system drained, apart from a quick visit about a month ago to discover it's all mouldy green on the outside - which a decent wash will sort, what else should I be checking before venturing into the wild unknown?

well you stole my one liner that i was going to use "use it more" i guess some one had to be the first to use it....what about the battery did you disconnect it totally, if its in place still with the leads connected for sure the battery will have drained, if they are left to do this you will probably find that it will no longer hold its charge next year or worst still will not actually charge whenever you use it again.

i would also recomend a good wash now and buy it a cover they are redily available and now days very cheap (ish) and then you wont have the problem of having to get it ready when you want to use it again. oh and what about checking that all the vent holes have some kinds of mesh over thm so that our friends the rodents cant get in for a warm. hope that helps glen
