Leaking Broken Tap

We are currently away in our caravan and it's the 1st weekend away of the year and went for the luxury of a fuuly serviced pitch. However!! upon connecting the water and switching the water pump on to our dismay water began pouring from the tap, not as you would expect, but from the back of the tap all over the worktop. It is a chrome liver style Comet Mixer tap (sterling europa) my husband had a quick look to reveal that the ceramic disc within the mixer valve inside the tap body is broken/

Does anyone know whether this is a part easily available or will it require a repair via the dealer under warranty??

I am hoping to be able to go and get the part tomorrow in order to continue having running water as at the moment we can't have any water on at all, which defeats the object of a fully serviced pitch!

Many Thanks for your help in advance!!

Hi Janet,

Sorry to hear of your woes, I would imagine you will need to replace the whole tap. This is relatively easy if you can gain access to beneath the tap. The pipes are probably 'push fit'onto the tails of the tap. This damage is often caused from ice forming and cracking the swivel part of the monoblock., or from a knock. Hope this helps.

Bit of a difficult one this.

As th eceramic disc is broken it would be said that there was water in the tap during the cold weather we have had and it is frost damage , which is not covered by warranty.

I know Reich do a replacement ceramic cartidge but not sure about Comet, I have a feeling it will need a new tap complete.

Many thanks for your responses I have been able to find out that it is a Comet Roma Single Lever Mixer Tap and like you have said we were also thinking that it was caused by the cold weather (we are new to caravanning so that will be our first mistake probably of many I should imagine!!) Now the next question is if i'm unable to buy the ceramic disc how readily available are the comet taps? Thanks

Janet,

Just a thought, if you are unable to source a tap you could get 2 off blanking plugs to terminate the pipes and then at least be able to use the basin hot/cold supplies.

Good luck

Hi

In addition to Discover in Wrexham, there is also a caravan dealer in Ruabon, not far away from you, staff at The Plassey site may well know the name and how to get there. If memory serves me right its on the road going towards Rhosymedre from Ruabon.

Hope this makes sense. If you need any more help please get in touch I have family living outside of Wrexham.
