Leaky Toilet

Hello. I have a leaky Thetford cassette toilet (model C-403 I think). Just returned from a weekend away and all worked fine. However I did not empty the flush system before driving home and when I did get back home I found pink water all over the floor just outside the toilet door. I plan to take it into the dealer but wondered if anyone else has had anything similar and might know what the issue is?

Hi. On our last van, a Swift, we aways got a bit of pink water on the bathroom floor if we didn't empty the flush before towing; it was fine on pitch. I always assumed it was the general jiggling of towing, and just wiped it up. Also berated OH for forgetting to empty flush.

Thanks. I have discovered its a 402C toilet, It does say in the Thetofrd manual to empty before travelling however with young children its handy to have some flush ready (especially if we are travelling across Europe). My caravan is an Ace Jubilee Courier 6 berth. I notice it leaks into the shower tray and into the back comparment if I overfill. I thought however these were sealed untis with integrated flush systerns so was surpirised it leaks at all. Maybe I need to follow the instructions..... Tim

On second thoughts would be be difficult to remove the toilet and check to ensure there are no cracks and perhaps use some sealant around any suspect areas. Is it easy for a compentant DIY enthusiast to remove the unit from the van or would it need a pro? Having a quick look it looks like a few screws to undo, remove some facia plates and it should lift straight up....???? Maybe....I

I would strongly advise against tying to remove toilet, it is not as easy as it may appear.
Even f you do, and seal where you think may be a problem, the simple fact is, if you tow with the flush tank with water in it, it will splash out.
The instructions are quite clear about this.

Hi Damien I posted a link to the thetford site which showed exploded views of all their toilets it appears to have been removed, did it breach forum rules?

A link to the Thetford website wouldn't breach any rules Derek.
As far as I can tell no posts have been deleted by mods

No link has been deleted, however the Thetford website does not, as far as I know, allow direct link into the technical details but just directs you to the main website, where you have to select various options to find the info you need.

Update: I think I know what happened,,,,,the OP posted a duplicate post and one was removed, which possibly took your link with it.
If that is the case then I apologise as it certainly was not intended to do so.

Thanks all for the posts here. I guess I will empty the flush tank before travelling in future but I do wonder why I never had the problem before (last 12 months where I tended to fill the tank before travelling) and its just started now (even when the tank isn't full). I guess its not a sealed unit when Thetford refer to an integrated flush tank. However it would make sense to me to perhaps design one which is a sealed unit so you can travel safely with a modest amount of water in. I think the posts here have convinced me not to try and remove so thanks all for saving me on this task!
