Leaving van on site

Thinking of utilising the Easter and May bank holiday's.
Would go to site for 4 days over Easter, leave van on site for three days then return for the bank holiday.
Questions;
Would it be advisable ?
If I did leave it there should I pack every thing away ie; Awning, aquaroll ete etc?
Or should I leave it all out so it actually looks occupied?
Obviously if there is a neighbour staying all week suppose I could ask them to keep an eye on it.
It would have the usual standard hitch/wheel locks.
The site from home is 1.5 hours approx towing and about 1 hour solo.
Any input would be appreciated, many thanks.

Foremost it would depend on the site, where it is and does it have wardens with good security. If it had these I would leave it but take valuables like the TV etc home. I would leave the awning up but put the aquaroll/wastemaster inside the locked van. If a club site for example I'd have no qualms about leaving it. On a CL it might be a different matter.

Hi

I think you should be fine. Like LB said, leave the awning up, unless gale force winds are forecast. Take the aqua roll inside the van, along with anything else in the awning. I'd take the tv home along with any other portable costly items.

Keep your security devices on. Is it a proper site with owners living on site? If so, personally, I wouldn't have any reservations about leaving it.

Hi LB and Lisa
Thanks for your replies, the site hopefully will be the one holding the PC Rally this year, hoping to go along and join our first ever rally to get a taste.
OH works most B/Hols so she has got some begging to do when at work tomorrrow.
The remarks on taking the valuble portable things is good one.

dont leave the awning up unless the weather is ok ie no high winds so check it out.

Will proberbly use the porch awning for first part for just me and OH, then when we return with daugher and grandson will put up the main awning.

last year big post about a vaner left is van nd awning carntremebre all the facts but they took down a awning of the van next door or did not big who har for sticking there nose in.

Be very careful with your insurance as the caravan will be unoccupied and if it gets nicked insurance will want to know all the ins and outs and why you were not in the caravan at night when it got nicked. Warden may not report it is missing for 2 or 3 days which may add to the problem.

Word verification is getting on my nerves!

But have to admit it's a very valid point, but got me thinking about seasonal vanners do they have a differant type of policy.
Maybe I should check it out, no harm in asking I suppose.
Thanks for the response Uvongo

We have a seasonal and certainly don't take everything home every time we leave the van. We also leave the awning up (with stuff inside -chairs, table, etc) unless there is forecast for strong winds. Two years ago we were on a site with nothing between us and Ireland and beyond on the west coast but with a steel poled awning with seven roof poles (1000 cm awning) we had no problems although we didn't erect it until after Easter and took it down in September. Our friends on the next pitch with aluminium and only 4 roof poles lost theirs.
As for insurance we're with the caravan club and they are fine with seasonal pitches.

Thanks Sheila, Think I will go for it, spoke to the site and they had no objections (they are getting a pitch fee though)
Checked Insurance and there,s not much about it but they dont say No!! Still, I will ring them on Monday just to double check.
Think I will leave Porch awning up, weather permitting, EH lead plugged in, switched off in the van, and perhaps leave the waste containers out just to make the pitch look a bit more occupied than it actually is.
