I am told you can get them from some chemists for free, but have never tried it.

Chemists stopped giving them out "for free" a while back. You now need to either order them online via the NHS online system, or phone 119. You can either get them mailed to your home, or receive a QR code that you then point at the Pharmacist's "thingy" for authorisation.

After you have used one you upload the result or phone it in and then quick as a flash it appears on your NHS App alongside your Covid vaccination and Booster details. And there you are all ready to go clubbing again.

We used two yesterday as we had been for a Christmas pub lunch with friends, and my wife had been to an Il Divo ( Il Divo then cancelled their next concerts at Hull and others due to Covid) concert plus meal out with daughter. All came out negative.

PS the ones we had only required you to swab your nose and not throat. They may concern some members as they came with a full certificate of compliance......in Mandarin

When in my local Pharmacy, the other day, The woman in front of me asked for two packs of LFT's, the assistant asked if she had a code, " sorry No" thats ok I will just write it own on my list. So there are ways around it.

To get them from a chemist is really easy, if you have an nhs login that you have to use to login to the nhs app then you go on the go.uk website and go through the request for test kits and if it comes up with none available it directs you to ordering from a chemist, I did it today after login in for me and then for my wife and 5 minutes later I’d got collect code and went to the chemist and picked up box of 7 tests for me and another box of 7 for my wife, couldn’t ne easier, it even comes up with a list of all the chemists you can use to go and fetch them, quick call before going to collect to be sure they’ve not run out and all free.

Message we got was no pharmacy available within 30 miles of our home address. Cannot order for delivery either.
Today we are visiting SIL who is in constant contact with school children and relatives so a bit of a concern.

same issue here, two kids at college and wife is a teacher. they are all supposed to do two tests per week so it's going to be an issue very soon for us. All three schools used to supply test kits when needed but that was changed recently so have to order or get a code like everyone else. Another fine mess

I think the prime ministers announcement on Sunday evening possibly caught the system by surprise combined with an element of “ panic” from those who may not have had jabs, or boosters. Words such as “ tidal wave” or in Gaelic 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ‘ Tsunami” don’t calm the nerves. But if the end effect is to increase take up of vaccination or boosters then it will help overall.

Some journalists were discussing the ‘sensationalist‘ language used by Boris and Nicola as being totally wrong. (Which I find a bit rich coming from them). Has it caused a rush on LFT’s and vaccines. It looks like it. But isn’t that rush mainly from those people who had not taken up the opportunities prior to this.

Good result IMHO.

In part the rush may be because of those who haven’t yet had vaccines or boosters. But the booster programme had started a while back and from the daily reports of numbers boosted it was proceeding at a quite leisurely pace, cohort by cohort. Then it was announced it’s pace was due to increase on 13 December, but not with the aim of everyone being boosted by 31 December. Then all of a sudden it was announced that all adults could have boosters, and only a three month period from last vaccination was required. Trying to plan the logistics of such a dramatic change is unbelievably difficult. 1 million boosters per day are required in England, as of last nights figure the shortfall was around 600000. I don’t envy those trying to make this happen, but at least it’s got momentum and the public seem to have swung behind the call to get vaccinated or boosted. So the more that are jabbed the better.

Went to the community store down the road and plenty of stock. Got a box each for wife and myself and did first test today.
A lot of a hassle reporting the result Online as you log into your account and then still have to give name, DOB, address etc plus a load of other unnecessary questions of which they should already have the answers.
Tried scanning the QR code using an QR code app, but nothing happens?

Your findings exactly mirrored mine. Scan function didn’t work and needless inputting of details already held when you registered. But it does appear quickly on your NHS app record.

I assume you are using the “Scan test strip QR code” box on the NHS website. It works very well with our i phones and pads. Sometimes I find by manually entering our email and password it works better than using the auto saved ones! No idea why that is😵‍💫😵‍💫

Yes itvwas the scan function that wouldn’t work on iPhone, didn’t bother using iPad so input serial number manually. Can’t remember my password as it’s a Apple “strong “ one held in Keychain.

I have Samsung android phone and used a normal QE Scan app and not oen associated with the NHS. Could not find on either NHS app or NHS Covid app. Not sure if I am going to bother in future with notifying NHS if results show negative.

I have done 5 or 6 now using the NHS link, never had a problem, using a Samsung tablet. You don't use a QR Scan app, you use the NHS one.

Download the app from the Android store or whatever. Uploading a negative test helps the statistical analysis for the various locations. Uploading a void test also contributes as it may show a problem with the testing kits, or those who use them.

I have both NHS apps on phone, but neither have QR scan for LFT result. TBH I do not want to go through the Online rigmarole for the next 6 days for both of us.

There’s the normal NHS app which is separate from the one used to check in at facilities. The normal one allows you to order repeat prescriptions, check you medical appointment, see test results etc and holds your COVID vaccination and test records. Of course you don’t have to tick all of the boxes fir the other information if you don’t want to, and your GP practice have to be authorised by you to upload your personal medical stuff anyway. So you can use it just for covid info. Just search NHS App and you will find the links easily enough.
