Hi I've been reading sillybilly's thread about external sockets which has convinced me even further of my "don't mess with the electrics" policy. Anyway, with this in mind, what are the best lighs to put in the awning, and how do you pwer them.

Thanks in advance

No doubt somebody will shoot me down. But we've always found running a cable either 240 or 12 volt out of a window from an internal socket works a treat. The rubber seals and "half catch" position prevents damage to the cables.

We have second fridge that we use in the awning and 12volt campimg strip lights that clip on to the awning framework.

We have an external socket, factory fitted, and run an extension lead from it. At various times this is used to power a small portable fridge, a tiny electric oven, a two-burner electric hob, or the light for the awning (which hangs from the awning ceiling pole). I would add that we don't run more than two together, and never the oven and hob at the same time!!

I can't find the thread on external sockets - but did read an article somewhere recently about someone who had just run the wire through the floor of the van and fitted a waterproof socket underneath. Was it in Practical Caravan???
