lights leisure battery and power!

We just bought a little caravan and when the car is connected the spotlights in the van work,they don't work when hooked up to the mains and don't work when on the 12v battery.Is this just that the battery needs charging as the van has been in storage for a year??? or is there another switch or something we are missing?Any advice appreciated
 
Hi Cathy

The lights are 12v and when you unhitch the caravan you need to switch the zig unit to the caravan position using the 3 position switch.
