I have a Dorema Calypso awning 2005 model ( now discontinued) and have been looking for one of the lightweight frames.

I have seen in the Towsure catalogue that you can purchase frames for the current range.I have contacted them but have failed to reply yet.I have contacted Dorema in the past and the price of their frames and the ones at Towsure are very different.

£250 from Dorema.£145 from Towsure

Question -

Will they fit my awning ?

Are the Towsure ones genuine?

Thanks in anticipation.

Jon.

Aluminium frames aren't as robust as steel or grp. All awning poles bend in windy conditions. Steel and grp will "spring" back (unless badly bent) but aluminium doesn't it stays bent.

Having suffered bent poles on a porch awning with aluminium frame I have discovered that they need closer support, certainly poles should be no more than 2m apart, which means fitting intermediate storm poles in many cases.

Personally, I'd have steel for cheapness, grp/fibre for lightness.

We were issued with aluminium poles with our awning and had nothing but problems. They creeked and groaned in the slightest breeze and, if not tightened on a regular basis, caused a dent in the caravan as they became loosened. We went back to the supplier and sked for the steel poles and have had not futher bother.

Thanks for comments.I have now received a reply from Towsure.

I was trying to cut down on weight as well as laying out all of my steel poles on the floor !! I have colour coded them,as most people do,which is easier.I only tend to use the awning when we are staying more than a weekend as I have a Fiamma Canopy.

Thanks

Jon
