Longleat CC site.

Anyone stayed at this site? What are your views please- facilities, things to do for a weekend stop, local places to visit?

Hi Gooner,

We stayed at Longleat for the first time in June this year prior to having a week at Damage Barton.

I really like the site and was impressed with the layout and facilities. There is the added bonus of a fish and chip van visiting twice weekly! The house and grounds are a very short walk along a lane from the site with the safari park a short drive away.

We used Tesco Clubcard vouchers to purchase ticket which save quite a bit of money. A passport ticket is available covering all of the attractions which enables you to revisit if you don't have time to cover everything.

Due to staying 2 nights, we didn't bother to venture out of the site so I can't really comment on surrounding places to visit.

Just arrived back from this site, it is a lovely site, wardens are lovely and the showers are excellent. the really nice thing was that we didn't use the car once.

As Martin said, the estate is just a short walk, and it is better to take the bus around the safari park rather than your own car because the monkeys have a field day with the car ariels.

As members of CCC for many years and one of our first visits was to Longleat, this was in the 60s and at the time we were camping a few miles away. Anyway this was with our young chidren who now have children of their own now so in June my wife said how about going back to Longlete and me knowing the CC has a club site said ok and i joined the club on line and booked a week there.We bought the 2 tickets which enabled us to walk around any time . Our conclusion was that it was the best week we have had for some time.The site is very good there is a lot to see in the area such as the Royal Navy museum and others so would reccomend it .

Hi gooner we visited longleat estate last year. could not get on the cc site so stayed at salisbury ccc site and travelled. Your pasport/ticket lasts to end of season think about mid nov. Approx 19 different things to visit. including visit the house a trip on the lake and a drive round the safari park. Like Martin we used the tesco clubcard deals. Great value. We spent 2 great days there and did not see half of it. Plenty of places to sit about and picnic. There is a cafe and a couple of shops selling all the usual gifts. All in all thoroughly enjoyed it and will certainly be returning. There is also a kenel for your dog during your drive through the safari park. So have a great time. Billy

Hi Gooner

We stayed at the site for a full week and only took the car out once in order to stock up on supplies! As has been said already the site is only a couple of hundred yards from the house (which is currently being reroofed so not to be seen in all its glory). However, this did not cause any problems and there is lots to occupy children and adults alike. The gardens are well worth walking around and there are supperb walks for dogs.

You can obtain a map of walks from site from the wardens office.

Just stock up and you will be OK you will have no need of your car!

The site facilities are as you would expect of the CC and the wardens are all very friendly indeed.

This was our first stay on this site but will definitely return again next year.

Hi Gooner

We had a week there last year and also used Tesco 'Days Out' vouchers for free entry. Do take the conducted tour of Lord Baths private area [where he is still doing new paintings] one of the bedrooms is a real 'eye-opener'.

We also visited [Free with Tesco] the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton http://www.fleetairarm.com/ and Sammy Millers excellent Motor Cycle Museum http://museum.sammymiller.co.uk/

Well, thanks to all your replies we've just got back from a weekend away at Longleat (our 1st visit & it won't be our last)

An absolutely brilliant site with excellent facilities and the added attraction of Longleat House & Theme Park next door (5mins walk) We spent 2 hours in the house marvelling at the decor, paintings & other artifacts. Our children are now grown up, but for families with young ones this is an amazing place with loads for all ages. For older folk like us there is an abundance of walks or places to cycle and still plenty in the gardens and grounds to keep you occupied.

Once again thanks to all of you who answered my original query and you are jointly responsible for us 2 olduns enjoying a superb weekend away. Happy camping to you all. Gooner.
