Camping Laguna is great. lovely pools, right on the beach. AquaBrava the water park is just 10 mins away and well worth a day out.

We were at Cypsela twice - nine and ten years ago - in our tourer but perhaps they have stopped taking them since. Pity if that is the case as it was, we thought, ideal for families with children from toddlers to teens.

Camping Playa Joyel (on ACSI) is near to Santander. It's quite big and at first a little ordinary, but it is on a most stunning beach and estuary with the sort of low tide lagoons and rock pools that little kids adore. The sea and rocks are beautiful, there's safe swimming and also surfing. The site has a pool (we just swam in the sea) and other kids' stuff. The local town has lots of facilities - I remember finding an outstanding fishmonger, there was also a funfair which my kids - then aged 5 and 7 - loved.
Second is Camping La Paz (ACSI) - a little further west. Quite stunning location with pitches on tiers like a paddy field down to a sandy beach. The coast here is unspoilt and rocky - rather like Pembrokeshire but warmer. Nearby too are the Picos de Europa mountains. Again, quite worth a visit. Fewer kids facilities but again lots of rock pools for crabbing in. Sea can be rough but they should be alright at most points of the tide.

Are you looking for a site on the Mediterranean side or Atlantic. The weather is much more reliable at the Med.

Hello Keith,
initially I was not concerned what side, but after a bit of research, as you say the weather is much more reliable on the Med side. Have not ruled out Cantabria as could use Portsmouth Santander Ferry?.
Had some very useful replies, any more anyone,
thanks

Hi Hollypop1

You can cross from Santander to the Med in a day. I did it several times (from Bibao) in the past with the children before they grew up!

There are some excellent sites at Cambrils - Torre del Sole, Cambrils Park, Camping Joan, Playa Montroig. The first three are in either the Camping Cheques or ACCI books if you are not going in peak season and are fantastic value for 15 euros. In peak season they are expensive, but I'm sure the same applies everywhere. They all have excellent facilities for children (Joan less so) and I have been to all except Cambrils Park in the last three years.

If you are travelling down through France, the Costa Brava is obviously nearer and I am sure there are some excellent sites there too, but my experience of them is too old to recommend any - I'm sure somebody else will help
