Lots of New Names on the Forum

There appears to be a lot of new names on the Forum lately, or is it just that people have already started changing their name, to be ready for the forthcoming upgrade to the site ? If this is so, might it be a good idea on their first post with the new name, to indicate who they were previously?

Lets hope its a mixture of both, as new people coming on board are the lifeblood of any situation.

Best regards,

George

Dont really see the point as the forum is annonymouse any way, I mean you may have seen me on a site some time in the past or in the future but would not know me from the forum.

Did not have any problems changing mine from Peter(Fleetwood) Its a pity we have to change as I will have to get used to looking for the posts from, shall we say, the more notorious and contoversial posters,.

That's how I saw it too, Rita - as an option if we wanted to, particularly if there was more than one of a similar name.

There's only one of me so I'm staying as I am ;o)

Hello Rita,

The problem for you could be, that if there are three Rita's and you may become Rita3. From what I understand in John Duncan's posting about the new Forum, where there is more than one member with the same name, it will automatically differentiate them, in the above manner. John Duncan is offering the option of choosing your own name before the new Forum starts, but I suppose you could always change later.

Best regards,

George

Quote from Surfer .. "I thought I would change as there were several others with the same first name.

See if you can guess my original name. :)

Yes, you're Ian who was originally living in S.Africa hence your anti English posts regarding how many English players were born in England ;O)

Hi Your Lordship.

I still sign myself as Denise but have changed my forum id as another Denise appeared on the forum some time ago. In fact, I replied to one or two of her posts and although our identities were obviously different, it felt as though I was talking to myself. Although I'm getting on a bit now, I've not yet reached that stage. I think its a terrific idea to allow us to use unique nicknames rather than using our real names but I suppose it could be open to abuse by some.

Sorry Bedford George. This reply should have been addressed to you rather than His Lordship.

I resent being called anti-English because I asked a genuine question. My knowledge of football is very limited. However how many SA`players are there in the English cricket team?

BTW the English are world reknown for their sense of humour but yours seems to have disappear.

All the jokes I posted regarding the English team were sent to me by born and bred Englishmen even the one about the Scots. So it seems that some still retain a sense of humour and have gotten over the defeat! It is not the end of the world when a team loose.

But why use nicknames at all, unless of course you do have a very common name? What have you got to hide? I'm emmerson on lots of forums, cos that's the name my parents gave me, and have never found it to be a problem.

I couldn't find the yellow and black boxes, but what Parksy didn't tell us is that you have to log in first!

Having done that, I have now become emmerson2,but as there's only one of me, I'm not sure that I needed to change. But, if it keeps everyone happy, then I'm happy.

Oh yes I did Emmerson!

I wrote Here

'After logging on to the forum in the normal manner you will notice three rectangular yellow/ black tabs at the top left hand side of the forum webpage.

The top one is 'EDIT PROFILE'

Left click on this tab and a new 'window' will open which is marked

'Update Forums Profile'

In the rectangular box marked 'Nickname' will be your current username.

Place the mouse cursor to the right at the end of the last letter of your current username and press 'BACKSPACE' on your computer keyboard. This will erase your current username.

Enter your new username into the box and left click on the 'UPDATE' tab at the bottom of the webpage.

Left Click on 'BACK TO FORUMS' and your username will be automatically updated.'

My first sentence was an instruction to log on first.

Your forum name was unique anyway Emmerson so there was no need for you to have changed. John Duncan's advice was for members who use names which are often duplicated like 'John' or 'Michael'.

There's only one Emmerson!
