Just returned from a lovely site in Somerset. It is called Thorney Lakes and is near Langport. It is situated on the Somerset Levels and 1 mile away is the small village of Muchelney with its historis abbey and church.
The site is medium sized and we thought being the middle of October EHU would be advisable! we took our halogen heater and also a fan heater to keep us warm. We were very lucky with the weather not too cold apart from the one morning when we woke to find the site as white as a sheet. However, the sun soon came out and stayed out all day. The Tuesday was wet all day so this was spent visiting and shopping!
We were not cold at night either even though our van is a 1980's Abi Monza it doesn't have any kind of heating so we were relying on the halogen and fan heaters!
We are half tempted to go away at Xmas but obviously it will be a lot colder. We were thinking of investing in a cheap single sleeping bag to wrap aroud the aqua roll to help prevent it from freezing, or does anyone else have any better ideas?
All in all i would defitenly go away again in october. I was not sure what it would be like but it wasn't that bad!

Hi Andrea, I have read about some people linning the water carrier with tank lagging to stop freezing. Some people take a couple of 2 litre water bottles and keep them in the caravan filled ready to use. On the note of heaters, the halogen ones are ok but make sure it is not to high a rating to trip the EHU. The easy way to check it out is to look at the base to see what watts it is and divide that by the volts (240) this will give you the amps it uses or close to it any way. So if its a 2000 watt unit then divide that by 240 and you get around the 8 amp mark. add to that your kettle when on and you can come close to the 16 amps.
Does the caravan not have a gas fire at all. We use a 500 watt oil filled heater unit, its ok but cannot compete against the real cold of heavy frosts. You need at least a 800 watt one. That will use only three amps.
We would love to go away for christmas and newyear but my better half says she would miss the grand kids to much. Hope you have a nice time when you go.
