We have had ours for eight years and never had any plastic tastes from it....
We had a slight build up of scale but soaked the inside with a 50% mix of vinigar and water then boiled it a couple of times and no funny taste was left but we always use a filter jug for the kettle. .

Have you tried the kettle at home to try and isolate the problem of van pipes passing the taste of the water over ..? I would do that first .....

We had a low wattage one 700 i think, it was quicker to use the gas kettle , with whistle, (real caravanners have one). Its been in the garage along with the rest of the stuff waiting to go on Ebay, TV areial, Milenco wheel lift, old extension mirrors, carbon lite awning, since we found air awnings. .

I bought a cheap £5 electric kettle. Cheap ones tend to bave low wattage. At the same stalk I also bought a whistling kettle for the gas hob.

We once bought a kettle from a well known supermarket. This also had the plastic taste that you mention.
I tried various means to remove it so much that I must have increased the original purchase price considerably by the amount of times it was boiled.

Bi-carb. Milton. Standing overnight in vinegar. Home brew steriliser. Lemon juice, nothing at all worked.
Fortunately we were in the position to take it back which we did.
The funny thing was that on returning it to the store the customer services lady said that we needed to just boil it once and discard the water before actually starting to use it. Needless to say we exchanged it for another brand and paid the extra.
So I'm sorry I can't offer any solution so unless someone else can help my thoughts would be to bite the bullet and drop it in the waste bin sorry. :(
Best wishes Brian

I purchased a Quest low watt kettle at the NEC show and after trying all recommended tips the foul taste and smell of plastic was still present so in the end I returned the kettle to the retailer who refunded my cost. the consumer Which people are still trying to find what the main the problem is as they have had lots of queries about this problem with lots of different makes and models, so I have reverted back to my household 2000 watt kettle for the time being

Captain, if the kettle is used just for tea, how about giving it a boil up with a tea bag inside, it might work, as everything else has failed. It might make instant gravey taste funny though.

To descale or clean out kettle avoid vinegar/ Cut a few slices of lemon, put into water, boil. Allow to cool down, repeat (with same lemon). Rinse out, heat with water only, rinse.

Chuck lemon away - it is now not fit for G&T

daft question but are you sure it isn't getting the plastic taste from your system? I have a quest one and it is fine once I have run the system through for a bit... I also have several on hob gas powered kettles from when the Long Haired Admiral used to forget to pack important items during our under canvass days. Hardcore.

Hello Captain

I'm sorry to read of the taste problem. Sadly as I think you may have gathered by now its actually the plastic its self that's causing it, and no amount of sterilising or cleaning is likely to clear it up. Occasionally caravan pipes can have a similar effect, and the only solution is to replace the pipes.

Despite the fact its a year old, provided you have the receipt, I would try and return it as its not fit for purpose, and you should at least get a partial refund or somethin knocked of the price of an alternative.

You don't require a reciept nowadays,
As long as you bought it on a card, if you know roughly the date,, the account office will tell you where and when you bought it.
Big Brother, is watching you. !!!

That has actually always been the case, but its so much simpler if you do have the original receipt.
