Hi all,

We are planning a weekend away early September and like the look of this site, we have 3 kayaks that we would like to use on the river, is this possible from this site and do they charge to launch and recover ??

Are there any problems with this site that we should be warned of ?

Many Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian Swift , you can launch your canoes for free , they charge for canoe hiring and picking up downstream , they also hire bikes , when you phone ask for riverside pitch 1 ,if you want to be by the canoe launching site , the pitches are all large along the riverbank they are all on grass ,but i have never had any muddy conditions in the 10 years i have been going there , the people who own the site are very nice ,in fact so are the people that go there ,they have a basic shop onsite there is a small mini market about a mile up the road , plus you are only 15 mins away from the town centre , early and late in the year you can stay for 7 nights for

HI Joby, Thanks for that the site sounds wonderful.

We have booked a riverside pitch.

If I remember are you the person that lives in Swansea ?

If so how long does it take you towing to get upto Hereford, we also live in Swansea.

My son is a keen fisher so will be glad when I tell him about your catch.

Thanks again

Ian

Hi Ian-Swift , yes we live in Gorseinon Swansea , it takes between 2 to 2 and quarter hours its 83 mile door to site , we go on the M4 to junction 43 then on to the 465 all the way ,as you enter the outskirt of the town Tesco is on the left carry on for a few hundred yards under the railway bridge turn right into Walnut tree avenue ,there is road humps on this section , go straight ahead across the lights ,along the B4399 Holme lacy road ,its a bit twisty on the last section ,stay on this road until reach the T juntion on the river bridge , turn right here and Lucksall is a few hundred yards on your right , be care full with children if the river is in flood ,it can rise 14 feet , and if you fell in i dont think you would get out ,also after flood conditions the banks can be very slippery , i have a map of the area at home ,if you would like borrow it just leave your email with the mod and i will email my address to you ,also watch out for the Lord of the Manor in this area , if you come from Wales he may charge an entry Toll

I've given Ian dispensation to enter joby :O)

Just a thought, why don't you carry on down the M6 to junc 24 and then up the dual carriageway A449/A40 to Ross taking off on the B4224 to Mordiford? It's avoiding the 38 mile single carriageway road between Ponty and Hereford.

Perhaps you've tried that and your route is better, let us know please.

we came home that way once ,it adds another 20 miles to the journey ,we prefer the 465 ,because there is not much traffic on it ,and mostly dual carriaway , even better now the road have almost finished
