Lunar grill

Last year i changed my Lunar Lexon for a 2009 Delta TI. Not a lot of difference but a different lay out, but i have found a very painfull problem with the cooker grill. The cooker only says Lunar on it but it looks like the Spinflow in the old van apart from one thing, the grill burner used to go from side to side so the residue heat went through the vent where the rings are, usefull to keep pans warm. On this van the grill burner goes from front to back and all the heat comes out of the front of the grill. When i did some lamb chops in it all the knobs on the front got so hot i had to use a cloth wraped around my hand to turn them. No heat was coming through the vent by the rings, this is dangerous and could end up with some nasty burnt fingers. Anybody else come across this ??.

we have a Lunar Lexon 640 T/A ,and we have a spinflow cooker which sounds the same as yours ,on ours just above the grill door there is a small lip if you pull it out it should sheild the cooker knobs above it ,we dont use the grill any more because it takes too long

Hi Joby

Just been into the van and given that lip a tug , nothing moves , had a closer look and its just a small plate screwed on the grill front top.We had a lexon 640L 2005 but the seating was going soft so decided to swap it.

just had another look at the grill. the sticker next to the grill says pull out the flap below the knobs but as hard as i could pull nothing moved so took out the 2 screws and gave it a good pull, everything fell to bits.seems that the person who put it together tightened it all up too much so it wouldnt move. what a pig to put back together !!! everything fell behind the knobs, washers and nuts. all ok now and i am an expert on spin flo cookers.

We had a Spinflow cooker once and found exactly the same problem. The knobs got so hot you couldn't touch them. The oven was also hopeless. Never found an answer other than sell the vehicle. Only satisfaction is that they have now been taken over by Thetford so end of Spinflow!!!

Hi JohnKS

I never had a problem with the oven only the grill. When you light the grill only half the burners light witha decent flame , the rest is just a small glow. Trying to do lamb chops does take some time but the end result is worth waiting for , as you say the knobe are then untouchable. I put a thermometer where the knobs are and it went past 50deg C thats as far as my thermo goes and thats B hot. "Design fault" as it never happened with the old van with the same model cooker.

A favourite gripe of mine. Do the people who design caravans and their appliances ever actually try using them before they unleash them on the unsuspecting buyers?

no i dont think caravan designers try there products out ,every year you expect to see an improvement in some fittings ,instead they get worse ,some of the products fitted should be thrown on the dump

there is a heatshield that is just below the fascia that pulls out to stop the heat getting to the knobs when grilling. please take care when you have done grilling as the heat sheild will be hot and a oven glove should be used.
