Hi Lutz.

You mentioned a while ago that you us a caravan storage facility near Frankfurt ?

Well it's now looks like we would like to leave our caravan around that area for about 5 to 6 weeks from the end of July onwards. We have decieded to leave the caravan, drive home then return at the begining of September.
Any chance you could pass on the details so I could check it out please.

Many thanks

There's ample space, so that shouldn't be a problem. I tried to phone the owner of the facility a couple of times today to ask what he would charge for short term storage which is what you are looking for, (normally the rental period is 6 months), but there was no reply. I'll give it another try on Monday.

I got in touch with them this morning. They would be asking for 30 Euros to store a caravan for up to about 2 months at the same facility as where I have mine.

Thanks for the info Lutz.

A couple of questions ?

How secure is the facility ? Do you get the feeling that they look after and take care of the stored vans ?
Contact details please.

Again, thanks for your help.

As caravan thefts are are practically unheard of over here, no attempt is made to make any storage facilities particularly secure. Usually they are surrounded by nothing more than a simple chicken wire fence. Despite that, few caravans even have any locks on them. Mine doesn't either and nothing has ever happened. In the over 20 years that I have used the site I have only once heard of a theft, and that was at least 10 years ago. A lot of people even keep their caravans for weeks out in the road or standing on public car parks.
All the owners that keep their caravans at this facility have a key to the gate. The chap that runs it is always present on Saturday mornings between 9 and 11. Otherwise, the only people that keep an eye on it are the those that live in the house opposite the entrance. They do check that the gate is always locked. They spoke to me once for leaving the gate unlocked while I was inside getting the caravan ready to move it off the site.
As everything is arranged when the owner of the site is there, I haven't got a postal address, just his mobile phone number, but he doesn't speak any English.
There wouldn't be any problem if you give me a call just before you intend to drop the caravan off there. I would open the gate for you and you could leave your caravan at any vacant spot that isn't reserved.

No worries.
Sorry to hear that your plans have had to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances. Nothing too serious, I hope, but I know from my own experience how disappointing it can be.
