Mains water

We currently use the basic water container and pump that requires re-filling.

What do I need to convert to using a mains water feed ?

How does it work ?

Approx how much does it cost to "convert" ?

Thanks in advance

As I understand it most caravan systems do not like high mains pressure. Probably the most straight forward way is a mains adaptor for the water container. This is basically a small ball valve with a hose adaptor that fits into the water container - some containers like the 40L aquaroll actually have a cap on the side half way up for this purpose. In this way the caravan pump/water system works as normal, with the container being automatically topped up. A new adapter can be had for a little over

Hello Rubix,

You will need, ideally, a second side water cap for the aqaroll, if that is what you mean by basic water container you use at the moment.

Then you will require a side entry Torbeck valve (from B&Q or similar), a length of food grade hose and suitable connectors to connect the hose to the Torbeck valve and the tap.

Cut a hole in the newly acquired container cap to take the Torbeck valve stem and mount so as the valve will be on the inside of the water container when the cap is fitted.

Fit one set of hose connectors to the valve stem and one end of the hose, and the tap connection to the other.

Leave the valve a little loose when fitting the cap on the container so that you make sure it is hanging vertically when the cap is secured, then just tighten to stop it moving.

Connect to the water tap, and fill, it will stop when the float reaches its cut off position, about half an aquaroll.

Drop your pump in the top entry as usual and thats it.

Costs approx Valve about

Here is a link to the one on e-bay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300189900462&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RCRX_Pr2_PcY_BIN_IT&refitem=300187668169&itemcount=2&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget

It comes supplied with cap and hose connector. I would be a little careful with the Torbeck valve, remember the float has to be small enough to pass through the neck of the container. As the one on e-bay is specifically designed for this application there should be no problem.

Hi Rubix.

Dependant on which make pump you use and if you use a fully serviced pitch you can buy a hose with pressure reducer in the line and just connect your water supply straight to the caravan no pump no carrying water.

Regards Stewart

Hello,

It again depends on what aquaroll you have and yes if its the 40ltr one all you need is the Ball Valve and Food Grade Hose and you are away.If you have the smaller one please let us know as I can save you approx

On my last van, we used whale water mains adaptor.

It is a length of hose that conects to the tap and then through a pressure reducer, conects to the caravan replacing the water pump.

It comes complete with an adapter so you can use it with the Whale system or the Carver/Truma system

Hi All

I've got the pukka Aquaroll-made cistern/valve setup that you're all talking about. It was quite expensive for what it is - but works great.

I would be very dubious about plugging mains pressure up to my van, even if I did have one of these new fangled gizmos. Imagine coming back from a day out and something in the system has failed and you've had mains pressure water p***ing out all day....

Doesn't bear thinking about!

I too bit the bullet and bought the aquaroll kit again a bit pricey but it does what it says on the tin, fab bit of kit and we use it all the time if the site has full sevice pitches

Apologies for not replying sooner.

I will look into doing this, but not just yet.

It was a lot simpler than I thought.

Thanks folks.

i think all of us would be safer turning tap off at supply while away from van. 1minutes tap turning is better than hours of mopping up and the heartache that goes with it
