Manufacturer supplied LCD TVS

All the big manufacturers are now supplying digital LCD tvs with their flagship ranges eg, Conquerors , Senators etc.

Mine has not worked properly since I first used it in january of this year. Twice it has been back to the TV manufacturer who says there is nothing wrong.

Basically whilst watching it in bed the picture gradually deteriorates so you are looking at a "negative". Peoples hair loses all definition. Watching it in the lounge seems ok ish.

All cables , connections and signal, Sky, are fine.

Do you think these LCD tvs cannot be viewed at angles other than straight on?

The caravan manufacturer is sending me a different "angled " bracket which may do the trick. I'll let you know.

Is it me or are LCDs harder to see when in bed and the tv is mounted high up in a vertical position?

Alan,

LCD TV screens are available in a range of "qualities" and one of those qualities is viewing angle - as a rule of thumb - the more expensive sets from the well know brands have wider and better viewing angles.

And the problem you describe sounds like a narrow viewing angle - adjust the angle until you can see the image correctly.

I think you are right.

My manufacturer is sending me a new mounting bracket which will allow me to tilt the tv towards our eyes whilst we are in bed. Whilst the tv is digital it is a pretty, no name basic job. I wish I had been allowed to make my own choice and pay what I wanted rather than have a cheap jack thrown in with the overall package. Ah well I chose it.

If you can arrange it so that you're looking at the screen "straight on" then I'm sure the colour inversion will just go away.

Most screens seem to handle - left / right - viewing quite well - but up / down can be an issue... Get the angle right and it should be fine.

And the free TV scenario reminds me of not so long ago when Mercedes, BMW and others just provided a hole in the facing - mainly because their owners had specific requirements (Becker / Blaupunkt / Alpine) and there was no point fitting a bog-standard Motorola at the factory...

Hi Alan,

Please forgive me for maybe stating the obvious but when your lying in bed looking at your TV, when the screen does it's dodgy thing, have you tried getting up and looking at the screen straigt on.

This would determain for sure if the TV is faulty or it's just the viewing angle, surly?

If the screen still looks dodgy whilst looking at it head on then I would sugest there is a problem with the TV.

Sorry again if I'm stating the obvious.

Hi Alan just to let you know I had the same problem with opurs its a Beko and laying in bed we tilted the tv downhill and the problem was gone .

Gary , sorry we are technical thickos. It never crossed our minds until I started searching the internet an ddiscovered that LCD tvs performance is nowhere as good as a crt.

Hopefully this new "hinge" bracket will do the trick.

Now why didn't the caravan and tv manufacturers think of this in the first place??

I'll let you all know how I get over the next 4 weeks.
