OK - himself still not comfortable [ nor am I either] with the make-it-up-yourself-bed from the front 2 seats of our Abbey Cardinal [ old age is catching up]

We are seriously thinking of going down the mattress topper route but I have a few questions after perusing Raskelf's Site this am.

Can anyone help answer these Qs please ?

Raskelf indicate that you should not use a sleeping bag [ conventional type ] over their toppers - is this so ?

How on earth do you attach their Duvalays to make one big one ?

Ive gone back and searched and everyone seems happy with what they have bought so I am now left scratching my head .

Having just been and bought 2 new sleeping bags this year I'm kind of reluctant to abandon them - but if the Duvalay is the way to go then so be it.

Hi Angela, We have a 1' memory foam wish we use and after makeing the bed up then trow the memory form on top then the sleeping bags, we had no problem, a good night sleep as I suffer from back problem, The 1' memony foam can be roll up and put under the seat with the sleeping bag and pillow as well, did think about the 2', but it will take up too much room, been happy with the 1' memory foam, hope this help Trevor

I have 2 raskelf toppers and I made a cover for each out of old sheets and use a duvet on top. Why not use the sleeping bags opened out and use as a duvet. By the way I use the toppers on my bed at home during the off season and find themm perfect.I find theat 2 inch toppers do not take up much room either.

Raskelf are superb, we use the 1" and find the are very comfortable. Use the zip on sheets, lay 2 x singles side by side and the use double duvet on top. Nice and quick and easy to make up to.

Hi Angela, have you had a look on Jonic's web site. They sell memory foam which is cut to the size of your caravan bed so it is easier to store. You can then use your sleeping bags on top as a duvet saving you the cost of a new duvet. Karen x

We bought a two inch memory foam topper from Raskelf earlier this year and are very impressed with it, big improvement in comfort levels. We use it on the van's fixed bed so storage is not a problem, we just leave it on the bed. Raskelf recommend that you do not use a sleeping bag or similar directly on top of the topper as that greatly reduces its effect, nothing to stop anyone from using an opened sleeping bag as a duvet though.

Raskelf also offer the service of cutting the toppers to the size or shape you require, we also got the zipped cover along with it.

Raskelf are not the cheapest on the market but their products are good. If buying elsewhere, check what density of memory foam you are getting. I had a look around and found some suppliers were offering as heavy duty the same as Raskelf term medium.

Yeah Rob-T - I had noticed that .

I'm still turning everything round in my head about this . I like the idea of the duvalay - it should store neatly enough . Our present sleeping bag really takes up the whole of one side - and what goes in the other side has to be seen to be believed :(.

I was hoping that 2 duvalays would roll down neatly and together occupy the space that the present bedding does .

Angela I dont think you can make one big one out of duvalays. They are however very comfortable to sleep in. I suffer from arthritis and the duvalay has made caravanning a much more pleasant experience for me.

I've just looked in the raself brochure I had from the NEC show last week and it says that the 'cover' & duvet are conected and it leaves one side open with a generous overhang. They look more comforable that sleeping bags....

We've had they're 2" mattress overlay on our fixed bed for a couple of years and have o say how comfortable it is - (a friend bought a cheaper model from elsewhere and said what a waste of money it was... so you do get what you pay for)

hope this helps - but give them a ring - they were very helpful with us when we bough ours and cut it to fit the odd shaped bed perfectly

I have e-mailed Raskelf but so far had no response

If you got to http://www.raskelf.com/duvaly.htm

and scroll down you will eventually get to a bit about the Duvalay which says ' can be used as singles or together as a double'

I'm just hoping that is so - would be soooooooooo easy to make up the bed with them

Hi Angela

I have a Duvalay and it is excellent - easy like a sleeping bag but without the restriction. When I enquired about using two together I was told that the only way to do this would be to have the duvets overlapping in the middle, unless they have since changed their design, but I don't see how they could really. Now we use the beds as singles and bedmaking is very easy, as the duvalays just roll up and go under the bed with no difficulty.

I meant to say that if you want to use the bed as a double, just buy two single toppers and use two single duvets - the best of both worlds and easier to store. You could also do this when using the beds as singles as we do sometimes if we don't use the duvalay.

Stuart does shaw's have a website and is the offer for the memory foam mattress still on, seems like a bargain?
Hi Ian, Unfortunatly not, the correct name for the shops are "Shaw's the drapers Ltd" I have searched for a web site but without success they have loads of shops but nearly all in the South West and Wales.

Well the matress arrived very late on Thursday - I mean really really late :( As bed had been stripped and old mattress removed we had to wait for it . Poor Driver had had 2 breakdowns since leaving Wakefield and had a drop in Aberdeen before coming to us.

However I have to say I have been soooooooooooo comfortable since then.

Thoroughly recommend it .

Now longing to try the caravan ones :)
